Quick clutch question

My buddy had a completely worn clutch on his 04 rev... He said you could not buy a complete clutch, and that all the parts to repair cost him $800.00!
Is this right?
I am a cat guy, but couldn't help but think he got ripped off.
Just wanted to clarify this for him and see if he was taken for a ride.
Thanks

true story. your better off to find a totaled sled and buy the used clutch. what happened to the clutch. we had one go bad in our group but for the most part all of our clutches have been bulletproof. the one that went bad had the main bushing go bad which caused the rest of it to shake itself apart. not sure why the bushing went, everything seemed to run true? bought one off a 06 for $350 and never had trouble again.

now that i said that we'll see how the xp holds up!

Not sure exactly what caused the problem... The sled had been in 2 different shops a few times because it would not perform and was shy about 400 rpm.
Both shops went through the clutch and replaced some parts.
When all was said and done, the head o-ring was pinched... The owner and my buddy found the problem.
Aparantly the clutch was wobbling when they first started the sled after the O-ring replacement.
From what I understand they replaced pretty much everything minus the stationary sheave and weights.

After posting this I read the other thread on the doo clutches.

I have been impressed with the doos, but the prices on parts and problems I have seen first hand would make me leary of buying one.

Thanks for the reply.
Poor buddy has spent over 1500 dollars fixing his 04 and has not been able to ride much.

maybe he needs to forget to take off his parking brake? seems that has cured a few lemon sleds out there.
