How did you guys fill the oil line without the oil draining out before threading into oil pump? ( I might have 2 or 3 oz. left in it )

We filled the line with oil, then stuck a shop towel eye of the line. After we threaded the line down to the oil pump, we pulled the towel out and as quickly as possible tightened it up. I'm sure there are better ways, but it worked and we didn't loose much oil at all doing it this way.

I thought about filling from the turbo end, but does that drain the oil that was placed in the turbo earlier on ?

Pour oil into the turbo pump first, just loosen the 4 screws and turn the hole so its at the top. Turn it back down and hook up the oil line, tighten the 4 screws. Take the line off up at the turbo and hold it wayyyyyyyyy up in the air and fill it with oil, hook it back up (quickly of course!) and its done. If the oil pump isn't working it'll force oil up through the vent line from the turbo and it'll run out of your air box!! Ya, been there done that! Sherm

Thanks Sherm, I just was'nt sure how important it was to actually fill the line. Now I get it. Fun project !

I take it the turbo gets oil from the engine dry sump? When you do an oil change on the motor do you have to do any thing special to the turbo plumbing to ensure oil in there?

The turbo oil line does come from the dry sump, there is a fitting at the oil pressure sending unit near the oil filter. That puts oil into the turbo and then the pump "sucks" the oil back out of the turbo. When you change the oil it has no effect on whether the pump/oil line is primed or not. Another question one of the guys had was, if there was a bit of a oil drip at the pump, would it be enough to drain the oil return line to the pump. I guess if it leaked enough when the sled was shut off it could cause a problem with the pump not priming itself, haven't encountered that though........Sherm
