Some guys were cutting a few inches behind the spindle, others felt strongly that you should begin cutting a few inches forward of the spindle. Seemed like a toss-up so I started the cut at the spindle. This worked great for me - love the change. I removed 1.5" of outside edge. Made the cut with a standard dremel using a wheel designed for cutting plastic.
