Questions about dealing with dealers?

I'm buying a 2011 Pro 155 with 700 miles from a dealer. They want $9950 for it. It was a snowcheck with 4 year warranty. I've never bought something from a dealer before.
Can I dicker with them on price?
What are you guys paying for a used pro right now?

Thanks,
Aaron

The reality of it is, (at least to me) part of the fun of spending 10K is trying to get the best deal.
9950 isn't a bad price for a pro, I know people who have paid more, and some less. But 9500 would be better. You can always ask, all they can say is no. It may be a consignment so he may have to approach the owner.
I would start at 9400 and see where it goes. Acessories like light weight can, gas rack, skid plate and hand warmers all come into it as well. If he dosent take 94 or 95, add things you want, to the 9500 and make it a package deal. Sometimes that will give them a little more room to deal.

Just my .02

The 2011 Pro's are going for about $9500 aropund here just bacause of the demand. The 4 year warrenty is a valuable option, but you can always deal with them. Good luck

Just bought a bone stock 11 Pro 155 from dealer (IA) last week with 800 miles, 4yr warranty, and paid 9100 for the sled. So your price is in the ballpark. Most dealers around my area (MN) were asking 9700 to 9999.

I was thinking these guys were a little high. No pun intended. It books at 8900 in MT. And I'm preaty sure he paid about 8100 for it. The guy that had it snowchecks every year. I thought the 9950 is way high considering that I could have snowchecked a new one for 10800! Wish I would have. Maybe next year.

Well now to deal!

I paid $9550 for an 11 Demo with 135 miles from the local dealer in MT.

$9200-9300 for one with 800 Miles would be a fair buy. Depends on how bad you want it.

Fiddle around to much and some guy with $9800 may just walk in the door and walk out with your sled.

For 10% more you could just get a brand new one...I'd say 9k or less to make it worth it.

X2 on buying new but if you really want this sled. The trick is to make a lower offer than you are willing to pay at the first pass without pissing off the dealer. Be smooth, be nice then give him the bad news. Also, try and find another deal that is a lower priced than his to compare it too. Or use "I saw on the internet", dealers hate the internet. At the end of the day you want your dealer to make something off you, just not hit a grand slam in profit that they talk about for years. :face-icon-small-hap

I would not use I saw one cheaper somewhere else or I saw one on the internet. If I were a business owner that would just piss me off, I would look at them and say well you had better go buy that one then. I would just research prices to see what they are going for and then go talk to them. Let them know you are interested and make a resonable offer without pissing them off. Or you can do as stated above and ask for them to throw a few goodies in with the deal, clothes, pipe, accesories, etc. A dealer will often do that then go real low on the price, because they will add up accesories to make the deal look good to you but in reality its only costing them a portion of that. In this case everybody wins.:face-icon-small-win

I work retail so I am on the other side but I don't ever get "pissed off and tell someone to leave my store and buy somewhere else". I give them reasons to buy from me, tell them the reasons why I priced the product the way I did and if I can I counter the offer. This is a good time to find out the real personality of your dealer too, before you buy. Is he going to work with you or fight you on every single issue.

Just make sure you're ready to buy before making an offer is my only advice being in sales. "I will give you $____ and take it/pay for it/deposit on it RIGHT NOW" has a lot more power than "Umm gee can you give me your best price so I can leave and talk to my wife/friends/other dealers/cat/dog/chinese fighting fish/etc, get confused and never buy anything?"

That price seems really steep to me considering the miles. Like others have said that's almost a brand new 2012. Good luck let us know what happens

I just hate the dicker process. My dealer started down that road with me. I simply stated. I want to know your price. He started on the "what will you give me?" road.

I simply said "nothing"

As I started to leave, $9550 popped out of his mouth. I bought it that day.

This was on an 11 demo with 135 miles.

It's abit weird, but I love to do the buys. Trucks, sleds, bikes, anything big ticket. With lots of high dollar hands on sales experience (not vehicles), it's a blast for me to be the customer, instead of the seller. My tips - Don't be a dick, be cool, know you're facts and the market, and you'll do well if the seller is reasonable. There are unreasonable sellers, too. Anyone can pay top dollar or overpay, if it's important for you to get a good to fair deal, do the homework, know your top dollar price for that specific unit, and treat them how you want to be treated, and THEN be willing to walk. Even if it means not getting the sled you really want. Unless you want to be the anyone paying top dollar.

Warranty

What is 3 years of warranty worth? If you buy a new one off the showroom floor, do you pay more and get less warranty? Is the dealer close by? I personally will not drive very far to get a better deal, is 2-300 dollars enough to drive a couple hours somwhere else. Do you like who you are buying from, do you think they will take care of you if there is a problem. These are all the questions I ask myself when I am making a purchase.

Best of Luck

A

I think $9950 is a little high unless the sled already has an upgraded bumper, belly pan, new belt in the holder, a nearly new cover and an under the seat tool bag. Dickering depends on the dealer, I know a couple dealers that I refuse to purchase even a spark plug from, they're a-holes from the minute you walk in the door. I know one quite well who starts telling me how great he is the second I walk in the door although he never does any R&D whatsoever. I know some other dealers that I don't have any problem paying retail and then some because they know there stuff, and the minute you take your sled out the door it's very likely the best it's ever going to be. I'll happily support R&D and sweet pre-run set-ups.

For future times it seems like you know who the guy is snowchecking these machines? if not ok but if you do then try and cut the dealer out of the equation, i know thats sounds rough and im sure some of them will read this but honestly most of them and i say most, because not all of them are salesmen who can BS with the best of them. So try to go direct next time cut out that 2000 dallor turn around.

But just my .02 cents because i'll probably be buying one soon from a dealer. LMFAO.
