Question on Park City/Thousand Peaks Riding

Attending a conference Salt Lake City December 6-10 and organizing a group of 4-6 to ride on Saturday the 7th. Looking at options, Thousand Peaks near Park City seems to be the place to rent/ride with.

Any thoughts on those who live/ride in the area on riding this time of year (December 7th) and thoughts on who to rent from and ride with (ie Thousand Peaks guided 1/2 day tour).

Mix of trail/off trail riding desired.

Thank you in advance.

The BIG question is will there be enough snow!
Last year at that time snow was thin.
Another place is Heber City

Thousand Peaks is great riding. It's all private property and they strictly enforce it. They groom the trail from their little lodge up to the top of some pretty incredible off trail riding. It used to be open to public, but they closed it down a few years ago. I had a friend who was a guide for them, they treat their customers pretty well. In early December you may not have much snow, but depends on the year.

I would say Uinta Recreation out of Heber would be your best bet. They are not limited to a certain area of land they own and could arrange to take you about anywhere you can get to the snow.

600

I just looked at the thousand peaks website. It says that you can "upgrade" to a 600. Huh? No 800 available and you're taking me to 11,000 feet? I hope you have a turbo on that 600 or else nobody will be having a good time.

And did that say $110 per snowmobile per hour? WOW!

Thousand Peaks really caters to wealthy visitors from park city and Deer valley. Most of which have never been on a sled before and will stay on the trail and follow the guide.
If you want a real mountain ride guided experience, contact B1dodge on this forum. He is doing a full ride experience out of a cabin near Heber. He is one of the best guides around and can set up up with lodging, sleds, everything. He will do as mild or wild of a ride as you want. PM me if you want and I can get you hook up with him.

Another option is Weller Recreation. They're right in Kamas on the western edge of the Uintahs with 3 trailheads within 30 minutes, the closest is about 15 minutes away on Mirror Lake Hwy. If you have a Suburban you can just pick the sleds up there and tow them to the trailhead, or you can arrange to have them dropped off for you. They rent new XM's with 154 /163 tracks.

If you're not going to use a guide, I'd suggest riding out of Woodland and riding the groomed trails which will lead you to large open fields and provide for plenty of fun/mellow exploring.

As was already mentioned snow conditions could be good or bad. We'll know which they are about Dec 6th...

Has he secured a permit to be guiding? If not I would highly advise against it. You can be fined $10k for doing so. Not really worth the risk in my opinion.

With that being said, if you are still looking and haven't found a place to rent, then give me a call. We can help get you set up with new equipment and lined up to ride some great terrain that will suit YOUR needs. It's probably best to not actually reserve until you get out here and see if snow conditions warrant. Sometimes there is enough snow to ride the trails only that early and sometimes there is enough to get off trail a bit. If interested give me a call. 801-361-0443 is my cell. Also check out our website. www.uintarecreation.com All of our snowmobiles are new and we will also be renting some 2014 Doo 800's that are not listed on the site yet.

X2...

Another option is Lofty Peak Adventures in Heber. They have guided tours on trail sleds at wasatch mountain state park if that's your thing, and new this year will be a store front in Heber that will offer 800 cc sleds that you can take and go wherever you please or they will deliver to the trail head if your choice. They run a fleet of nearly 100 sleds so no group is to large. New arctic cat 800's for off location

Park City Riding

We have 25 people booked for December 7th at Thousand Peaks. Multiple guides since many have never ridden before. Glad to see so many with interest in experiencing snowmobiling for the first time.

Three to Five of us with more experience are now planning on going December 8th and I will be contacting those recommended here to determine best plan and area for riding on Sunday.

Thanks again for all the input for a first time Utah sledding expereience.

You better pray for snow and lots of it. Some predicted for this weekend.
