Looking to get a "Zune" or similar.

What's the best way to play over vehicle stereo?

FM transmitter?

If so, do any units come with this built in?

Must be simple to load from Media Player library.

I am a bit "behind the curve" on all this, so keep it simple!

Dont go with an fm transmitter.. dont work very well IMO.. I put in a kenwood deck.. for an extra 35 bucks they through in a cord that plugs into my ipod.. ran it through the carpet and then up by the seat.. works very well

But I want the ability to play in anyones vehicle.

Well i havent found an fm transmitter that works super good.. not sayin there isnt one out there... just bring head phones for yourself.. haha :D

I have an iPod and use a Monster FM modulator to play my tunes. It works pretty darn and is easily transferrable to different vehicles.

Check out www.zune-online.com and for their forums. The've got everything there including how to downlaod and convert files from limwire etc. And little tips tricks and cheats with the Zune. If you signup with a service stay with the zune service. There's alot of fraud sites offering $20-40 for lifetime downloads. Also if you buy one retail, before you do check out www.zuneoriginals.com and check out the free customization and engraving you can get by ordering them through them. Plus they are about the only ones reliably supplied with the 80gb Zune for now.

To be versatile, the FM transmitter is the best bet.... They work ok, bu the best solution is to put in an aftermarket deck.... Maybe put a deck in yours and have the transmitter for the other vehicles... I put a pioneer in my car for 215 installed, and it is one sweet deck..... I also have the transmitter for the wifes car or other rigs we get into.....

Go to Radio Shack and buy one of the cassette adapters....... (looks like a regular cassette but has a wire with a 3.5mm jack on the end).
Pop the cassette in the player and plug the jack into your mp3 player. Not a very elegant solution, but unless you're plugging into an AUX IN jack in the car stereo, these sound the best (no comparison to FM modulator).

that's great if the car has a tape player in it... I think my mom's truck had one, but it quickly got replaced with a decent headunit.

FM is the best way to go... try a few and see which one works best for you. Belkin has one that plugs into the cig lighter and then into iPod... those are convienet bceause they charge ipod and power the FM transmitter at the sae time.

That's what I'm looking for.
But I need it in 8-track not cassette.

Bought a Sansa 4 gig
Have over 600 songs & still have room.

These are one of those things where you get one & think....Darn! I should
have bought one of these a long time ago!

Plug int stereo @ work

Use when working out

Vehicle to vehicle

In Church:D (just kidding)

I will have a few of them within the year I'm sure!

It's pretty rare to see me without my iPod. I have about 1300 songs on mine right now. I have it docked in my office on a small set-up that runs 8 hours a day, then use it working out daily. If I travel anymore than a few blocks it's also plugged into my car.

heh, i bought my 20GB iPod about 6 years ago.... had about 4GB of MP3s at the time (which I thought was a lot). Thought I'd never fill it up.

Now I have a 250GB drive attached to my server, iPod filled up about a year after I got it (Thank you college LAN!), and i'm looking at adding another drive to the server....

Rural areas the FM transmitter can be fine but in a major market metro area it's absolutely a joke. It will get you so mad that you end up not even using it most of the time.

New cars/trucks come with a input jack for these devices and then it's a great thing. No transmitter simply turn the volume up on the device and then control the songs there, the volume you can control like always on your radio.

I have been happy with my Ipod Nano 8gb. I'm not a music junky, just some audiobooks and about 300 songs is all I have. I have been pretty impressed, kind of surprised I hadn't got one a long time ago. It does become addicting when you are on Itunes or similiar.

I've had a couple of FM transmit devices when we had to and they worked well. However when hauling butt between cities it's kind of a pain changing channels all the time to avoid local stations.

Do what you have to do. FM will work if you don't have direct input jack. (take a cable anyway you might be in vehicles with direct input)

If your vehicle doesn't have an auxiliary input, I highly suggest you install one. A company by the name of "PAC" makes inputs for almost any brand of vehicle. They also make outputs for those of you that want to install systems and get quality sound. I found out about them when I was doing stereo work on my Duramax. NO WAY in hell was I going to dump the quality Bose factory deck for a cheesy Kenwood.
