Question for you Amsoil folks

This may be a stupid question, but I'm amsoil ignorant. My Summit used nothing but Amsoil by the previous owner. The tank is about 1/2 full now, and I was thinking of sticking with Amsoil. (here's the stupid part) The Amsoil is blue in color in the tank. I didn't know there was different types of snowmobile oil from Amsoil. I know the injector is blue because it comes in clear jugs. Is the interceptor blue also? Since the previous owner is no longer available to ask I would like to continue using the same type. Which type (if both are blue colored) should I be using & is it ok to mix both types of Amsoil?

uh-oh an oil thread.
I would dump what you want on top.
i use interceptor and like it. Realistically priced, valves look great, just doesnt smell pretty like some others.
Interceptor looks like 5w-30

It could also be Dominator, although I'm not sure what color that is. SOme people prefer to run Dominator, but I've never used it.

Here is a link to Amsoil's 2-cycle recommendations:

https://www.amsoil.com/products/twocycle/2cycle_chart.aspx

I wouldn't worry too much about mixing it a litte bit, here is what Amsoil says:

"It is recommended wherever JASO FC or API TC two-cycle oils are specified. INTERCEPTOR is a premium quality replacement for recreational equipment manufacturers' branded two-cycle oils. It is compatible with most mineral and synthetic two-cycle oils, however, for best performance, mixing oils should be minimized."

The Injector oil is good for non exhaust valve motors. Interceptor works well for exhaust valve motors. I use it in my 05 800 poo. Dominator is supposed to be for race applications.
If you have a motor w/ exhaust valves, use Interceptor; the valves will be cleaner.

Thanks people. I guess I'll make the change to interceptor since it's a valved motor. Took the valves out when I got it, and they were spotless. Must've been cleaned recently.
Thanks again.

I just read a thread on HCS about the difference. This is a amsoil jockey and his .02

"One should decide on Dominator vs Interceptor depending on the type of rider and kind of riding they do.

The Dominator can be thought of as the race oil. This oil is designed for hard run and hot running engines. Since the base stock and additive package that is used is designed for these conditions you can run into some carbon buildup if you are using this oil in a mild trail sled. Not to mention, if you are running this oil and do not need it you are basically burning extra money away. This would be my preferred pre-mix oil for race sleds and high zoot mod sleds. Since this oil was designed for all out performance and for engines that are frequently torn down it has a smaller amount of unnecessary additives.

The Interceptor is the best all around oil from AMSOIL in my opinion. This oil can be used in anything from a stock Z370 trail sled to a Pro-Mod race sled without issue. The Interceptor was engineered to be a clean burning oil for use in exhaust valve sleds. It is also hard to beat the price of the Interceptor in comparison to other synthetic oils."

I've run the injector in my last 4 sleds and I ride'em hard and had no issues whatso ever. So I say stick with the blue, it's the least exspensive, save the money for more gas to burn!

soo Domiator is red and Intraceptor is clear and Hp Injector is Blue...I have always just mixed them is the new product was available....

i've ran interceptor in my previous 3 sleds. love it. works great and keeps things clean. like has been said, doesn't smell like roses. but that's a problem for the guy behind you! i bought my 01 summit with 250 miles on it. they ran ski-doo oil. i checked the valves and they had lots of buildup on them. i cleaned them and ran amsoil. sled has 2700 miles and have not had to clean the vavles yet. take it how you want.

I've ran Amsoil in my sleds since 2002 cuz it was cheap! Up until last year all my sleds were stock and had pretty good luck with the oil. Ever since I've started playing with different set-ups and analyzing the burn patterns I've learned that Amsoil breaks down at high temps and leaves burnt deposits on the pistons and cylinders. The valves are clean but don't like the breakdown of protection on the pistons. I'm going back to stocker oil until I find a synthetic I like that isn't too expensive. Just my $0.02.

Our club had a sales rep from Amsoil come in and give us a break down on what the different oils did. He covered everything that was covered in the above posts plus one important point.

The Dominator does not give residual over summer protection. The Interceptor and possibly the Injector oil create a protecting film that covers those exposed steel parts in the bottom end of the motor like rod pins, rods, cranks and crank bearing from rusting. Imagine the amount of condensation in a metal box that is covered all summer and what it would do with unprotected steel. To make matters worse, there are those that make a habit of starting their sleds in the summer to make sure they still run, let them run for a couple minutes then shut them down and recover. This does nothing but introduce even more condensation as the motor might not have had the chance to heat up fully to drive off excess moisture.

This will lead over time to bottom end problems that is expensive to fix and rarely happens when you have all the time in the world to fix it.

In the group I ride with, we bought a 30 gallon drum and divided it out among about 5-6 guys so we got a decent price break on Interceptor oil.

Something to think about.

Not to get off the Amsoil subject, but what about going BRP's Synthetic to Blue Marble. Could I get away with get my oil tank down to below a 1\4 of a tank and dumping blue Marble in? Or should I drain my tank and start off fresh.

SnowTech mixed 27 different types of mineral and synthetic oils together a couple years ago and rode the sled all season and had no problems.

I have a question, I was told by the seller of the sled I recently bought it had Amsoil interceptor, but until now I didn't know it wasn't blue, and the oil is blue. So my guess is it's the HP injector oil? I put in Castrol because I was low and needed it on the weekend, thoughts on going to interceptor once it's low? Would it be bad to have pretty much 3 different types of oil in there? The old oil was really low, but I filled it pretty much full with Castrol.
