question about sled for newbe

Hey guys, I have a friend who i am trying to get into riding. This will be here first sled. I was thinking something like a 07 600ho RMK 144.

What do you guys think?

Is there anything I need to look for with this machine, any known problems?

Thanks in advance

Some women have a hard time with a pull start. Escpecially on a carbed machine. If I bought a sled for my wife it would be a 600cfi 144 with electric start and electric reverse.

That is the sled that I bought for my wife, she has not had much time to ride it yet, but liked it the couple of times she has. They come from the factory with very rich jetting on the bottom end, most guys go one or two sizes smaller on the pilot jets, this really made ours work better. If I were you I would go for the electric start CFI model, as suggested above.

Thanks guys, so you can get this sled with CFI...I was wondering about that

would it be hard and expensive to add electric start?

You have to get a geared clutch and the electric start kit. New clutch 300-500 and starter kit around 300-400. Installed by a dealer would be around a grand. Used ... done by yourself $400.

Better off buying one with it already installed, cause it adds very little to the value of the sled because of weight vs. convenience.

Donbrown is correct, it is about $1,000 to add electric start. If you buy it installed at the factory it is $400. That is why I decided to order a 600cfi 155 with electric start for my wife.

I'm not sure what year the 600 RMK was first offered in EFI, sorry.

The Polaris RMK Raw IQ 07 144 is a great sled. I have one and my girlfriend who is or was at that time a totally new rider really enjoys it! (didn't at first because her first riding experience was on a very nice custom edge chassis and the IQ felt tippy...plus apparantly THEY don't like to be TOLD what to do!:D:D)

That being said I really do wish I had a 155 efi 600 for her to ride and learn on. The 155 can make up for a lot of newness in deep snow and is a more stable platform for new riders to learn on. I also highly recommend a wider stance for a beginner irregardless of the track length.

Is this her first riding experience or just a first sled to own? Several schools of thought. If it's a brand new experience I would highly recommend a renting test or a demo ride so the actual experience of snowmobiling is positive prior to ownership.

Anyway all great sleds with no known worries from 07 to current in the 600 class. Plain RMK shift is not a bad option because the springed rydes are twice the shock of the WE airs and will feel more initially stable and predictable to a new rider. All the rest is option based and depends mostly on how the deal stacks up.

I'm a noob myself and I did a lot of looking around SW concerning a first sled for me. I ended up with a 07 RMK 600 Carbed with a 155 track. Haven't ridden it yet, but from what I am told it is a great sled to learn on. Plus if you need more power there is always a turbo kit!!

I have installed at least 50 electric start kits..the kits come complete with a new clutch with ring gear installed(no weights or springs)........the kit is all you will need...

its a great sled..my son has an 08 155 cfi ..yours to let her try if you need too..also..if you want I can get you the kit, as well as install it...mike

My wife has the 07 RMK 600-144 carbed and it is a great sled.It has made her a much better rider:).However it is impossible for her to start when it's really cold(below zero overnight). There is no way she can start it then.Once warmed up she can, but not easily.

If we were to do it over again,we would buy an 08 or newer 600 CFI with the 155 and E-start.

Turbo ... would look at a 660 kit or bigger.

What up Mike, long time no chat. That would be awesome if she could ride it, but i was hoping for her to have a sled before snow is on the ground.

As a girl who happens to own a 2007 RMK 600 155' I will tell you thats its not that hard to start once you get the technique down. It is good practice for a begginer to have a pull start in case you're with someone who has pull start and they get hurt, you can at least start their sled. A 155 is definitly reccomended, and if your a light person taking out the swaybar may help in turning. I love my sled, and with a few upgrades its not hard to keep up with all the 800's!
