Question about ski for my snowbike

I have wrecked my Simmons Gen 1 ski and need to replace it.

Have an ad with a guy having one gen 2 ski for sale after a snowmobile accident. Can I purchase his ski and use with my snowbike, or is it a special version that is used with snowbikes?

Rob

same ski but youll have to add two skags to the out side of the ski. there will be a total of 4 skags. move the outside one back about an inch. the gen 2 works great in the powder.

?

Sounds good then so I can buy the used ski.
Or is the Gen 3 ski even better than the Gen 2 ski?
Will use it in "spring conditions" boondocking and almost never super soft powder like in the west.

We boondock a lot between trees and explore and ride hardpack about 25% of our riding time.

The Gen 1 ski went too low in the snow and hooked up in branshes and stuff, so I want more floatation but still decent hardpack handling.

Is the Gen 2 ski the way to go, or should I look for a Gen 3 ski?

What Kit are you on? I find the gen 2 ski to be great in the powder and really tough to ride with on the hardpack, a twin axes mount helps tremendously on the hardpack, but not so great in the powder.
The gen 3 does look interesting.
Although I have not tried it yet the Pro Moto Billet ski adapter looks like it might work well with a gen 2??

Im on a 2Moto kit.
After reading about a very trustworthy rider that tried the Pro Moto Billet ski soloution I feel confident that it is not my cup of tea. The ski washes a lot easier in the powder with it so that is not of interest sadly. It also packs a lot of snow beneath the ski, so I will try something by myself.
First I have to decide between the Gen 2 or 3 ski.

ANY info about differences between the three different Gen skis are much appreciated!

GEN II SKI

I was going to buy a used ski and mod it myself ,but VAL at SIMMONS shot me a killer deal so between time and materials it was worth buying a new ski ,SIMMONS best price that I found ,also I trying to coat the outer skags with a slippery compound this year, any one else trying this out what works and doesnt .

If you go to Simmons website and look at the gen 3 you will see that the skags are staggered so I don't think the gen 3 would be a good choice for the bike kits. The major problem I see with these kits is that they have a lot of ski pressure and tend to nose dive quite a bit. A friend and myself have picked up a set of gen 2's and will be adding some angle iron to the outside edges of them in hopes that they will not washout in the powder and that they will float a lot better then the gen 1's. If you can keep the ski from sinking in the snow the entire kit should ride higher causing less drag and allowing you to get around a lot easier in the snow. In spring time conditions I will be going back to the gen 1.

I have tried many options and trying 2 more this year. I got a pair of used simmons gen 2 for 100.00. Installed promoto billet snowbike kit to one to try. When i had the gen 2 on the hawk it did seem like it washed out more in the pow but i did not have the snowtrackers on it.
I think the snowhawk ski with the widening kit will be awsome too. You can check that out on the bcr forum too.

Thanks for the info. The Hawk ski is really the best I have ridden in all conditions, just needs a bit more float..Perhaps thats due to the fact is is the only ski that was designed specifically for single ski applications??

Yep I ordered the kit from Thierry for stock hawk ski so should have something that will be perfect all around ski.
