can anyone tell me what the best bike for the mountain horse kit is it better to get a 525 or bigger or is a 450 better some people tell me the KX 450 is the best any help would be awesome thanks

has anyone tryed the mountain horse on different bikes 450,525,650 are the bigger cc bikes pulling it better or are the 450's better all around thanks

i heard that the 450s are better because they rev higher and faster as opposed to the bigger bores. idk. lots of people like 450's. were putting one on a 570 husaberg.

think I'm going to try a 450 they tell me it is 54+ hp out of the box if you go with a Kx450 or RM450 so I think thats the way I'm going to go thanks

ANY THOUGHTS ON THE KTM 530. ANY INFO ON THESE BIKE FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS RIDDEN THE 450 ALSO. I VE GOT A MH ON A KTM 450 AND THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THE 530.

I choose a wr450 because of the lights and electrical part, it is nice to have handwarmers, electric start and lights!

One of our 15 riders in the Priest area rode a KTM 450 XCW for the last two years. This season he upgraded to the new KTM 500 (same displacement as 530). He keeps saying over and over that it is so much easer to ride and gets further up the mountain.

That being said and riding a 530 myself, I can no way keep with a KX 450.
But with no hot grips or headlight the KX is not a bike for me.

With what I've seen so far the KX450 tuned is the bike to have. Yes, not having a headlight and the warmers (I don't have them installed yet on my WR450) isn't ideal, but I'd trade both of those for the power in that bike. Rev fast, up to speed fast, on top of the snow fast all while pinging off the rev limiter. It's definitely a hot bike.

has anybody run a two smoker?

I am running a MH kit on my 09 KTM 300 (2 stroke) and my buddy is running his MH kit on a 98 Honda CR 500 (2 stroke) and I they run awsome. I ride with several guys that are running 4 stroke 450's and these two strokes go everywhere the 4 strokes are going. I ran my kit on a 06 KTM 525 last season and I am glad I switched over to the 300, its so much lighter and goes through the snow a lot better than the 525 did. The Cr500 is running strong but I think it has even more power that needs unleashed, the jetting isn't dialed yet and the suspension needs to be adjusted so it doesn't seem so heavy in the front. I think once the Cr500 is dialed that it will be the ultimate snow bike but time will tell.

dial a jet

are you guys using any sort of dial-a-jet??

I am not using anything additional on my 300 and it's running really good. The guy with the CR500 has installed a powerjet and is working on getting it dialed in. The carburetor on the 500 is not the stock keihin its a mikuni flat slide so figuring out the jetting is taking some trial and error.

I have a few customers with a lot of time on MH kits and the 570 Berg and EFI KTM 500 are ideal bikes but they also have a 300 KTM in the group and they claim the 300 gives up nothing to the big bore bikes and is much lighter and more fun in the tight. The 08/09 KTM 450XC also works good as it has the quicker reving SX based motor but can run heated grips and lights and these bikes are available at reasonable prices.

The KX's are strong runners and light but some people have had issues with the EFI going into limp mode and losing power as the engines wont get hot enough and are running around 100 degrees even after a hard pull. I don't think everyone is having this issue though and could possibly be a thermostat away from being a non issue.

anybody Running the 2010/2011 yz450? Im thinkin the exhaust header being out of the way will not burn through my Klim Pants.

Instead of burning your pants you'll be going through vats of Rogain from pulling your hair out because of how easy the air intake and filter can get plugged. Other than that, the YZ is a great bike.

i have an 11' 450, yes they have the potential to get snow in the intakes, but nothing a little prefilter cant fix, just like the other bikes

as far as burning your pants.....not gonna happen:face-icon-small-win
