Question about fuel!

hello everyone! i was hoping some of you guys could educate me on fuel!

1) is leaded fuel good for a 2 stroke engines! I was told that it would help lubricate the engine and help it run a bit cooler

2) will leaded fuel gum stuff up more? IE carbon (ANY OUTHER PROS AND CONS)

3) is ethanol bad i know they are putting it in almost all gas now a days as a filler! Any where from 10% to 30%. If you could get fuel with out ethanol in it, would you?

4) has anybody had a bad experience with AV gas?

Thanks in advance for all your info guys!!!

I used to run 100LL in my 200 Mercury outboard all the time. The local Merc mechanic said that it wouldn't hurt it at all. Of course, this was an older 2.4. I don't know about the newer outboards.

the led can knock out sensors such as the exhaust temp on the M series, and A/F sensors ect...... could cause power valves to stick but I doubt it. If you don't need high octane don't use it, you will actual loose power, Like on the new stock sleds if they say 87 run 87. If you can buy non ethanol fuel run it, it make them run hotter and less power.

1) Yes. Tetraethel lead is a lubricant and octane booster.
2) No.
3) You have to jet differently for ethanol. I prefer non-ethanol fuel for my sleds.
4) No. I've been running AV gas (mixed with 91 premium) in my 14:1 motors for years with no issues. I know MANY sledders that run 100% AV gas. (LL100)

The biggest concern with ethanol in a two-stroke, or anything for that matter is that if/when any moisture is introduced, the ethanol will seperate from the gas.

Alcohol will suspend in gasoline, alcohol w/moisture will not, and at times you might be pulling way more alcohol through instead of gasoline thus leaning you out.

If you have a good fuel supplier and adjust jetting for ethanol fuel, you'll be fine. It is not a good idea to allow any kind of alcohol (ethanol) to sit in a fuel system or engine as it is bad on aluminum/ poly's etc.. This is why you should definitly stay away from it in things like lawn mowers, small engines, even snowmobiles, unlike your car/truck, they aren't being operated everyday.

well the reason i was asking is, i normally buy sanoco 92 but it has eth in it! for 15 cents more a liter i can get 100 oct AV no eth but has lead in it! sounds like lead is good as long as i dont eat it!

Ultimately leaded fuel has a metal in it (lead of course). For running on a two stroke it is fine, as the lead will assist in a little lubrication and not affect the engine. The biggest problem with leaded fuels is when you have O2 sensors, cat converters, etc. The lead tends to collect and plug these items up pretty quickly.

you "could" loose performance jumping up that far in octane, or gain, depends on how the sled is built.
