question about better boards

I was wondering about the better boards, do they really lighten it up a little or are they more for the beter traction? Never been around any just seen pics are they worth it?

The main reason to buy Better Boards is so the snow doesn't build up on your running boards! They are unbelievable at doing just that job. Then you add that they are much thicker than your thin stock running board, and they are then responsible for strengthening your boards - they do a great job at that too! Tractions is great, so I would say that is a third reason you would buy them. They are not meant to lighten anything up - you won't hear Rob (owner) say that they are meant for that purpose.

When installed on a sled, they truly make your boards Better Boards!

My 2 cents.

:) 2fun

Oh Boy

OK, The big picture is about snow removal. Better foot traction. I guess if you equate less snow on running boards you will have less weight. The real deal is you don't want snow build up. Sucks to be riding on a block of ice. Buy some!

best mod i ever had. The ability to actually have good traction will improve your riding a lot! if you get them and ride with someone else who doesnt have them on the same sled on a powder day, you will be able to tell the difference. Trust me you want them!!!

Better Boards are the best rider comfort thing you can do. The injury factor is greatly reduced as well from foot slippage. If you've slipped and grated 1 time you have paid for BB's in pain equivelent. My experience is tht Better Boards by design also allow for more opportunity for you foot to release from the footwell in an ejection compared to other brands. I have intsalled the other brands for buddies and seen the problem and sprain/break risk first hand.

This product is one of those few things that once you have you wonder how you got along without it.

This should give you the idea:

Anodized is a great looking option too:

is there any reason a person can't holesaw out the back end of the Better boards? Right after the decal where it is solid looks like slot of snow would build up there. I have a set in order for my IQ
Rett

I think you'll see when you temp them up that the suspension bracket is in that area. I know Rob did a ton of engineering and field testing on these things before they hit the press, and he would not hesitate to make a mid stream change if it was an improvement.

He will no doubt fill you in, but I trust that if there is not a hole to let snow out, it is for a good reason which is most likely structural. That part of your running board is pretty high and gravity is on your side being that it is a high point. I ride some big pow and never saw a problem in that area, especially with the annodized. BTW I did not do the window cut outs as the magic marker temps show in the pics. I ended up plasma cutting the entire area. Watch our for those susp. brackets on the underside though. Good luck. EW

Yea better boards

Thank you guys so much! Best marketers are loud happy customers. I've sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of sled stuff from apparel to parts and this is the one thing that bunches and bunches of people have actually come up to me at shows and THANKED ME FOR MAKING. It's awesome!

Like Eric stated I do incredible amounts of product testing (HUGE BENEFIT OF MY JOB). I personally have designed, installed, and ride tested most of our models. 14 Models in 28 finishes. If I didn't get to do it myself I had qualified and respected assistance from industry professionals before we put them out to you guys. Obviously some perform better then others but as a whole it's an awesome product. If I see an opportunity to make a design change within a decent business model we jump right on it. It is what makes us stand out over the competition. The net result equal Better Boards....better by design, performance, and appearance.

Hey Rhett we did make a couple of minor model adjustments for the RMK RAW IQ 08-09 line that will accomplish what you are looking at. Those will come out to dealers, distributors, and internet consumers in a couple weeks. If you ordered and I spoke to you they would be in that group. I offered a small discount on a couple sets that I had left in last years design if I had the opportunity to speak with you. Automated orders fill until the update or out of inventory. If you (Rhett) ended up with last seasons and want to trade out just give me a call and we will make it work.

Here's the deal with the Polaris RMK IQ RAW versions:

Once Polaris finished the design specs for all of the RMK IQ RAW models to one bracket position I was able to finish my new design. We added 1 1/8" to the front...opened up the front holes slightly by repositioning everything slightly...and then the biggie...added one more traction space/cleat in the back right in front of the rear bracket. The rear bracket strength is still sound and this should continue to defeat the buildup not only up front but now also in the back.

Finish coating performance testing is complete:

OK I just completed a bunch of finish testing for freeze rates, adhesion rates, and crystalization build-up on multiple finishes. Two of which are plastic and I was shocked at the imbalance of rates. Our original coatings far outperformed natural so significantly I've considered eliminating the option to go un-coated or natural. It's amazing. Now here is the other discovery we made. We found a hard plastic polymer coating from Europe that I thought would outperform our first more traditional coatings. WRONG...while it still whooped up on nothing other then raw aluminum it was almost exactly half as good in performance (ie ice snow freeze rate and adhesion ratios) as our traditional coating. So back to what we do best! I personally would never settle for non coated after these tests. I'm putting our coatings on some other sled parts that are subject to ice and snow build-up which creates a very heavy vehicle where it counts....in the field!

Carry on...

Rob, is your coating something you can apply later? I've got your boards on my King and I can't keep the ice and snow off. I really fought them last year.

Yep if you want or you can trade those in on an updated King Cat model 1/2 off or we can coat what you've got for $50 and shipping.

Please bring some of the coated ones to the denver show. I may buy a set (or two) from ya.

I got some black coated ones sitting on my sled...ready for "cut a big hole in running board" and install procedure.

I think the black will set the tunnel off nicely as well, not that I'm a huge "look" person...but was convinced to go to the coated for the 'less ice/snow build up' issue...and the price was right at the time. Thanks Rob. :)

Should make the sled a LOT easier to ride in the DEEEP CO pow!

Good to see I'm not alone on this.

Rob, what is it going to cost us locals to get the magic juice put on our boards?

Here are some of the 14 models we do....

KING CAT

John same deal but I'd trade them in on the new version of King Cat if I were you.

XP

Here is a close-up of an XP install. Best I have until some of these guys get there sleds out of storage for the season. We had it on display at Jackson but the good photos magically disappeared! Quoting customer Bill Jackson...you wouldn't think this sled would need these but it's the best thing I've done to it!

IQ RAW RMK

Ollie, I'll have a trailer load of them for the Denver show...two sets with your name on em! TWO! eh eh

EDGE & IQ POLARIS RMK (they are very similar)

Here is a shot of an EDGE model in black. (the name plate was just for this show model) Skinny little back part of the running boards didnt leave us with anything to work with in the back but up front they are excellent.

M CAT

Here are some sweet looking setups. Once again a monster seller and they work and look excellent. I ride alot with a shop that sells the competition and he still carries a small shovel to scrape his running boards. Holes too small, cleats too low! I give em lots of grief and it's fun!

YAMAHA NYTRO

Universally excellent...look cool...work great...monster improvement over stock. Big big big seller for us. Have to wait on the 09 to see if the holes are too small and the cleats too low just like Ski Doo XP. I think they will be but nobody has tried it yet.

here are the sample shots

Oh ya and ps Did you guys see Dan Adams write up in Sled Heads? Check out what he says about Better Boards. When the best mountain free riders in the world are offering unsolicited endorsements you can rest assure it's a product that just works! Thanks to Dan A, J Phatty D, Dan B, Julie M, Jack S, Brook B, and many many more industry leading mountain free riders and pro racers using BETTER BOARDS.

So do the boards need to be removed to get the treatment? Is this stuff super-secret or is it something I can pick up and apply myself? Hard for me to shell out another $75.00 for a new set to replace my one year old boards...

Rob I want to install a set on my brothers sled. I'm in the process of putting a Ekholm 141 tunnel on his 1M. It's a lightweight fanner. I'll have to get some dimensions and ask you which will fit my application. Definately get the coated ones.

Reeb shoot me the dimensions...alot of times we can work off an existing pattern and just trim them to fit...then it's off to coating.
