Question about ATACC on 03 Escape

"I bought an 03 800rmk that had an attac on it and it wouldn't run in the mountains at all with that pos on there. Took it off right there in the mountains and it ran better with the 450 mains that were in there than it did with the attac on it."

I just searched for possible solutions when I came across above which was posted about two yrs ago, however no solution was posted.

Above is what exactly happened to my sled running in Valemount past wkd. Ran great on the trail, but once in the alpine it ran intermittingly fat. Seemed to be better once it sat for awhile 20 minutes or so but eventually would ran fat again.

I bought sled used from a fellow with ATACC on it 3 yrs ago first trip to the mountains with it this past wkd

I read I can check positon of tubes and read about recalibration any other ideas that might be causing this.

Mains are 460
Base elevation would be Edmonton around 2000'
I think temperature set for -30

Problem was at around 7000' temp near 0

i've been told that if you get fuel in the tube it will not work right
also thats alot of alt./temp chang maybe it could'nt compinsate that much

attac

I had one on my polaris worked really good.i belive I was running 440 jets.I believe they want you to plug the tube in on a gloomy day(something about barometric pressure???)I installed the same attac on my 05 snopro ,seems to work great.I did phone them they seemed very helpful....and the candaian eh accent was noted ...LOL
My bud had one on his gramaha and fuel in the tube mad it not start or run like poop.

Couple ideas....

Make sure it is installed per instructions. http://holtzmaneng.com/INSTATACC.pdf

They supposedly can lose their calibration over time. I believe its free to send them in and have them recalibrated (in the mean time back to changing jets)

They will compensate for about 6000 feet reliably and a little more in some cases. (I only have a 4,000 foot change, so I can't say if it will do more)

Ocassionaly you will lose your base altitude. To fix, simply unplug the blue hose (tiny little bastard) and let it sit for a while and plug it back in (at the altitude you consider your base altitude)

Then its on to running and reading plugs making sure everything is ok.

I am just getting mine dialed in, and so far I like it.... but I will say the instructions with it leave a little to be desired.

I have found that there isn't much help online for the atacc setup. Post up and hopefully we can save the next guy a few phone calls and emails (and frustrated google searches!)

Info from Holtzman said that by chnaging my base temp from -40(not -30 as posted above) to -20 that would give me increased compensation for elevation. Makes sense as temp change was -40 and elevation change was about 5000'. If that doesn't work they suggested below

"Our recommendation is to send in ATACC’s for a rebuild/recalibration if used and the location of the internal temperature-setting set screw is unknown, or if there is no number or a number less than “3” stamped on the compensator. Otherwise, as long as the unit is functioning properly there is no need to consider a rebuild."

When I get a chance to to try it out I'll update.

I had a similar issue with the product where it worked good for a couple of years then started to take a hike. It started to fail "subtly", making it run fat and a little hard to trace. Surprised it went south in such a short time span. Tore it off and never looked back. Sounds like it works OK for others. For me it's one more variable that I don't need. Just my experience...

Are you jetted for your home altitude and -20F?? Even though that's not your temperature that's where the compensator is set and if it hasn't been touched then that's what you need to jet for. If it's a used system and you aren't sure whether or not it's been touched, I'd for sure send it in and have it calibrated.

And as stated, you can try unplugging the little blue hose at your home altitude and plug it back in after a few minutes.

I had an ATACC on my '03 Pro-X, it worked awesome. I did however change my needle setting to the second clip from the top when riding above 4000 ft. Middle clip when riding at 1,300 ft.

I've rode up to 10,000 feet with no issues and I even got up to 13,300 ft. or so one time and it was only a little boggy.

I would be surprised if you didn't need to set the needle on #2 clip(from the top) on yours too, being it's the same motor and carbs, although the needle is slightly different, as are the pilot jets. Check your plugs.

make sure it is installed as instructions state, my dealer thought they were doing me a favor by trimming all the hoses as short as possible to make it as neat as they could, but i guess they are that lenght for a reason.
