Question About Aftermarket Head

I have an 08 XP and im looking at putting a head on it, i found an SLP head in my parts unlimited book but it says its for 0-3000 feet, and i ride around 7000, so would this be a bad buy or could i get around it with jetting?

SLP has 3 different domes available for their head. One is like what you found, the next is 3-6000' and the other is over 6000'. Don't know on the jetting issue.

if you put that one in, it wouldnt have nearly enough compression due to lack of oxygen at elevation... ones for 0-3000 are usually around 12:1 12.5:1 that i have seen, when you ride over 7000 all the time, you can run 14:1 on 91 fuel safely. probably even higher.

if you put on the 0-3k you will not make the power you should at elevation

Talked to Adam @ SLP this morning

He gave me a part# for the head I requested. They are working on the jetting and details but haven't posted them yet. My advise is don't get to much head. We want to always look at the top of our rideing areas to determine the head we should use. Most often that leads to detination and tuneing problems. Get a head that is only in the middle of the area you ride and is good all the way to the bottom, or the parking lot! You still get all the advantages at altitude but "most" of the rideing is in the middle. If you have a head from last year, be careful, they are not even the correct head for the XP. They are just now coming out. Be available in October. I am getting the 12-378 for all of western Mt. Hope this helps a little. Ask for Adam @ SLP

think the only difference in the older head is it hangs over the front corners on the cylinder . was for the 06 head but the domes are made for the r motors . if you had a older slp head from an 06 you would only need the inserts from slp
