Question about a 2 year sitting sled

89 polaris trail 488 fanner. Sitting 2 years now . At my parents cabin and id like to freshen it up for a beginner to take out riding. If I can start it to get it in my trialer would I make any potential problems worse ? Clean carbs, dump fuel , clean out pipe for any nests, etc. ? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

clean the gas tank out, replace all the gas lines and such and get a new belt. check the track over make sure it isnt broken or riped or weather checked. Blow air threw the muffler and pipes(mice like these and will make a nice fire).

Pull the airbox and check it before you try to start, mice like these for nesting as well and you don't wanna pull anything into the motor.

Indeed, probably the most important thing. If there is stuff in the pipe, it should blow out, unless there's alot in there, then it will choke the motor off and it wont run.

Hmm. Been thinking the same thing, only my uncle has an 88 trail and it's been sitting for 10 years (at least). I figure it needs new jackshaft and driveshaft bearings as well as everything mentioned above. I probably won't touch the thing, but just thinking of all the stuff I'd have to work on if I did... I barely have the time to wrench on my Dragons anymore much less start an all new project. :(
