We have had a rough start to our winter here in Washington State! We got alot sooo early, then a crazy warm spell that melted things and opened up our creekbeds! 
We've been getting small storms here and there, but alot of WARM weather following... Anyhow, enough whining............
Saturday we stayed home to get my front shocks and rear skid put back in, again. It snowed all day long in the city! This must mean SOMETHING up high!! Starting to get excited...
Sunday morning we wake up with the intent to go sledding, but do not know where. Snotels around the state are saying very little snow fell over the previous day/night and NOAA is saying 80% of cloud cover/ precipitation wherever we might go. This is not cool for making decisions so we decide to flip a quarter. Tails we go to the I90 corridor, about an hour and 1/2 away but not showing much new snow. Heads we go to Baker, about 30 minutes further and if it's socked in can be NO fun at all, but better chance of finding new snow.
Heads it was! We are driving north and there's a bit of blue sky in the area around Baker, but I'm not going to let this fool me. Not yet...
We pull into the parking lot and there is blue sky and about a foot of FLUFFY (if you haven't ridden WA's mashed POW, you might not understand the need for CAPS there) snow! At this point, it is so hard to contain that little girl inside that wants to flop to the ground, do a snow angel and squeel. But I know, this is Baker (land of socked in during January). Geared up, heading up the trail.. even the trail feels softer with this different, fluffier snow. I'm really fighting the giggles now. We pop out into the meadows and there it is, 2' of fluff and blue skies ahead. If anyone had been within earshot they would have thought I was nuts!
And off we go, to miles and miles of first tracks of amazing powder until we just couldn't hang on anymore. THESE are the days that dreams are made of.
