Puyallup expo/swapmeet: need advice on buying sled for Revelstoke, BC

Hi,

I decided to move to Revelstoke, BC for the winter since I love snowboarding. I heard that it has some amazing backcountry terrain especially for sledding so decided I'd be missing out if I went there without a sled.

I'm in Portland, OR right now and want to buy something used for around $5k. It should be capable enough to handle the deep snow and steep terrain at Revy. I need to find something in the next few weeks and am not sure how many options there'll be around Portland so some people recommended going to the Puyallup expo/swapmeet up in Washington this weekend. I'm worried about going there alone to pick out a used sled since I'm new to the sport.

If anyone is planning on going to the Puyallup expo this weekend and would be willing to check out some used sleds with me I'd be really grateful and could buy you some beer or whatever you prefer. Also, any advice on what sleds to buy or avoid or where to find good deals around Portland would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

-Gene

Gene,

We ride Revy a few times a year...pretty familiar with the terrain and snow conditions.

Come look me up at the Fastrax Booth...I'll be more than happy to chat with you about the sleds that are for sale and what you find.

Ive got what gene is looking for. First row blue parking lot.

Get something that you can get parts and service for easily. Get to know the local wrenchs up there. They can save the day. Although I ride an XP, the closest dealer is in Sicamous and he's kind of a dirt bag. There's some good guys in town and I would go the route they choose.

That's great advice. Does anyone know much about what's easiest to service and find parts for around Revelstoke? What brand do most of the locals ride up there?

Thanks everyone for the advice. Will take you guys up on it if I make it up.

Most common brands are Ski Doo and Yamaha. Like Whitefish said, the ski doo dealer in Sicamous does not have a good rep.

BUT...for $5K, Your best bet is probably a Rev...just stay away from the 07's

Thanks for all the help and advice again.

After a stressful day of searching through all the used offerings I picked up an '09 Summit XP 163. It was more than I was hoping to spend, but I couldn't resist.

I wanna say a HUGE thanks to Rob Hoff from Ski-Doo. He was really helpful and took the time to come out into the parking lot and double check the sled I was buying to make sure everything was in good shape. This is the kind of stuff that wins customers over for the long-term.

Can't wait to get up to Revy and ride!

Congrats. Just get yourself some belts and you should be good to go ! LOL Sorry i couldn't resist !
