Putting In A Window (Enclosed Trailer) ????

I have a 27 foot Interstate Enclosed trailer. I want to put in a window in it, I have already purchased the Window on line and it is here. It is 24 wide and 26 tall dual pane slider. I have looked for just a little insite to putting this window in and cant find anything. I have put windows in Houses and stuff but this is a little diffrent. the window i bought is 1 7/8 of a inch tick, That is perfect. IT has a window trim ring that is what will hold the window in from the inside with metal screws. Since the window is 24 wide and i will have to remove part of a stud (metal) will i have to build a header for this or can i cut it just perfect so the window will carry the weight of only one stud. And i am going to mount it as high as i can so there should be a header in the whole trailer at the top i think. Well if anyone has done this let me know what little secrets are involved. I will caulk it on the outside and inside and make it pretty

there was an awesome special on the speed network a few weeks back about putting a window in an enclosed trailer, would really be worth looking up, it was about rebuilding an enclosed into a toyhauler. at any rate they had to build/frame in the window for support, they had alot of other cool tips as well

I would assume you will be cutting the outside just large enough for the window to slide in and mount up. That way whatever trim there is on the window will make it look like a factory install. On the inside I would suggest building a frame for the dimensions of the window so you keep (and probably enhance) the structural integrity of that area. I have also tried to find sites that give insight on 'modding' a normal enclosed trailer, and the results are hard to come by IMO.

thanks all

the episode on the speed chanel i thought was non informational They did not show a finished product, It look like they cut the hole to big, and did not even have a trim ring for the inside of the window Very disapointed owell time to build a frame i quess

I think you may have a problem if you don't build a header. The window could possibly break. Or buy another window that mounts vertical, in between the studs. THat would be alot less work.

I will be waiting for more information. I have a sliding window in my garage waiting to be put in as we speak. I was planing on just putting it in the man door so that I don't have to deal with cutting any studs.
