Putting attitude box on BD turbo

Has anyone done it? Did it make any difference?

Some guys have said that they are easier to tune, and the sled runs alot more consistently. Im debating whether to spend the money or just get used to this BD box.

Program

I have all 3 (bd, ai, pl). what program do you have in your BD box right now? Simple tuner? Earlier (v4?)

Things I like about the bd box (version 4.1 program):
• tune to your own liking on an RPM scale, with 0-100 numbers. This to me, is easier to tune and understand than a bunch of flashing lights.
• trim: You can add fuel (or subract) from the PTO side. This is most helpful with charge boxes that are not equal distribution (come in from mag side or off center).
• 5 different program settings. this is cool, because you can make a new map and save it, reload, modify, etc.
• Plug and Play for red button: you can rig a nitrous button to it to dump more fuel in if you see trouble. Say you are on a pull, look down, she's hot... hit the button. You can set this to add additional fuel.
• memory: retains max boost value and spikes.
• Its the most feature rich, advanced system of the 3.

that being said, the things i dont like about it are: the program uses the additional injectors too much, and the version was setup for a larger injector, so it doesnt work for me anymore... and, i think theyve come along way with the new ADA systems and stuff I have not used. Might be worth u upgrading your box than spending 469.00 on a new dobek controller.

The PL and Attitude boxes:
Easy to wire in. No pressure transducer. cleaner harness. You still have to adjust them, and tweak them. There are no trim features. You rely on a base map and tweak it (no save map feature).

PL box: PL box begins using the secondary fuel injectors after 9.5lbs, (or whatever they set up for your situation).

ATT box: the attitude box (4inj) uses all 4 more simultaneously.

Its one of those things similar to an avy beacon: they all do the same thing, use the one that best suits your style and you are comfortable with.

i put an attitude box on what started as a BD pump gas turbo, i guess it is basicly a twisted setup now, but i find the attitude box way easier to tune, for one thing it will show you exactly what rpm range you are in so you can find the troubled areas easily, i had mine tuned perfectly on the first ride, i like it much better the BD box, the only up side i found on the bd box is the max boost and the air temp, but most can live without that

Update your BD box to the ADA system.

Just have Boondocker update the box to their ADA system. I think it was $150 when I had it done last summer. I bought an '08 RG M8T last June that did not have the Air Density Advantage on it. I had to send the harness in along with it so it could be modified to plug into the stock air temp sensor.

I rode it the 1st time on Turkey day last week & it is awesome! I set it for 9 lbs with the boost T and rode. I increased the fuel about 5 points on the LOW MID & HI from BD's starting numbers & it still ran great, so I left it a little fat. I also enabled & set the EXV (exhaust valve) circuit extra fuel to 4. That seemed to take care of the (barely) lean spot up to when the exhaust valves open. VERY easy to tune compared to my normally aspirated m1000 from last season that I had the BD EFI & nitrous controller on. After only 2 days of riding, I'm done tuning. The capture feature is a big help in tuning as well. Hook up the "nitrous" button and use that feature! Boondocker & Justin (Code Red Performance) have been a HUGE help getting the updates for my system & helping with questions as they come up.

Love my BD Turbo!

i cant believe your spending more money on that turbo sled, now if it was the mighty xp it would be worth it, but that old cat?????:D

Haha........and its your fault ya focker! I would have been perfectly happy riding my xp for another season if it werent for you always putting bad ideas in my head.

So, if my sled was built in 2007 it probably has a pretty dated box. Can I upgrade my programming without doing ADA? Not too sure what to think of ADA??? Ive heard some bad things.

What bad have you heard about the ADA?

Ditto. What is bad about factoring charge air temp into the fuel requirement equation? That is a huge variable that is ignored by your current setup.

Im trying to remember exactly what it was that I heard. Something about the old box requiring constant adjustment, and that ADA is a bandaid for that. I guess the sensors burn out right away and then can cause you major grief? And also something about the box not being able to sense the load that the ECU sees?? I dont even really know what that last part means. I just remember the phrase the guy used.

I could be absolutely wrong. Im fairly new to the turbo game so Im just trying to gather info.

Updating my old 2008 BD box was no problem for me. BD updated it & had it back to me in a week last June. Give them a call. My TM8 ran great with very little tweaking last week. A charge temp variation of 40 degrees F (I saw from 90F to 137F at 9lbs of boost last week depending on length of pull) changes the amount of air your engine is getting by 6% at the same boost setting. The only way to adjust fuel accordingly is ADA.

Are you running an intercooler?

I know you were asking matt159, but this is a question that I have as well. Mine still has the intercooler in it. Some guys say go with a straight charge tube........some say put a fan on the intercooler. I already have the fan. Im just thinking about throttle response. Is there much of a difference between intercooler and no intercooler as far as throttle response?

Im just trying to decide what direction to go in with this thing. I took it out for the first short run to tune the rear suspension. It was pretty gross on the bottom end.

i would like to know the same thing, if anyone has dropped the intercooler and had better throttle response, mines a lil doggy on the bottom, i've also been debating getting rid of the bd box

Mine is the Race Gas kit (BIG intercooler). My clutch engages at 4000rpm. I have ZERO lag at 6K rpm or above. Very little lag from 5K to 6K. It just goes. The BOV valve opens whenever I chop the throttle and even opens sometimes when I'm maintaning 1/2 to 3/4 throttle doing some low-load boondocking. As soon as you start to move the flipper, it shuts & all the boost is right there (since the compressor is already at rpm thanks to the BOV). I had about 10 minutes of seat time on a pump gas D8T last year & there is NOT any more lag on my intercooled sled. I'm anxious to get on them again to compare. I'd like to say there is less spool-up time from mid-throttle than the D8T thanks to the BOV, but I want to do a side-by side comparison this season before I say that's true. I don't think a non-intercooled sled without a BOV could have any less lag than mine did last week. I don't see any significant lag in my vids from last week. What do you think?
Short clips of my TM8.
