Purchased 2004 RX-1 Mtn - HELP!

Its been a while since I have been on a mountain sled and I know going from a Rev platform to a RX-1 is indicative of going from a BMW to a Caddy!

That being said what can I expect from the RX-1 in the mountains/powder etc...The previously owner did put on mountain skis so I am thinking that will be better.

any and all help would be appreciated!

Do a search on this forum and totallyamaha and you will find a ton of info on mods that guys have done.

I had a 2003 and I did the following
- extrovert drivers (required me to punch out the stock track)
- MPI transfer enhancement kit
- SLP powder pros
- removed sway bar
- boss seat
- added yamaha rear heat exchanger
- high altitude carb springs
- carb heater shut off valve

IMO think the best thing you can do (besides boost) is a good set of skis and then a different rear skid and a track if you can swing that. Then go from there.

there is a ton of info on totallyyamaha in the rxmountain section lots of things you can do for free or cheap to make the rx1 better.

To be frank. I hated my 03 RX-1 stock. Today, I won't sell it, and not just because I can't. :face-icon-small-hap So here goes, Simmons Gen II, 3 inch rizer, Apex seat, 159 Challenger, Reverse and Hijacker sled jack. You may need ice scratchers, I like cable ones. Also left hand throttle is a must. Enjoy.

rx-1

stock, they were prolly the worst mountain sled ever made....that being said my riding buddy has an 03 that absolutely rocks for a n/a sled. imo get rid of the factory exhaust, skis, transfer rods on the rear skid, sway bar, and clutch and gear it. there are a host of other things you can do (some already said above) that will improve the handling of this machine....lightweight battery, pod filters, extended chaincase & long track etc.

As I looked, I guess I didn't actually answer your original question. So here goes. I like my RX-1 in it's current form for most mountain conditions. In fact last winter it went places that my Nytro's couldn't. We were in Colorado, Winter Park and Walden and it never got stuck in up to 3 feet of dry powder. Here in Idaho it does well untill you get in the really tight stuff. It is harder to man handle than the Nytro or other lighter machines. Sidehilling is the most challenging, but it can be done. That's when the lefty is critical. It is a climbing machine and I like the Gen II's for turning out. They really move the front around. It works well for a full size guy, 200 + lbs. You have to be very aggressive in your initial corrections, no finese required. Enjoy.
