pulling your sled out of a bowl

early last year. sled blew up down in a bowl. motor was locked tight. looking for what i guy should bring with u to get it the sled back to the trailer. keep the story short it took us two days to get it out and plastic sled with rope and two sleds hooked up to it going wide hope and fingers crossed hoping it makes it out with out destorying it. give me your ideas beside leaving for dead or lighting a match.
 
I guess it depends on the sled... we've had two strokes loose the motor in a no tow zone and had to pull the engine, go back and rebuild or pull out of another sled, go back and get it running.

4 strokes are a little harder, been there too... this is when you have good buddies, bigger sleds or equal to and a good understanding of google earth. We've done the helicopter thing too but that is expensive.
 
Take the sleds that run and pack a track, let it set up for a hour and head out. Ther are times when it is more practical to pull the engine and take it with you, fix it and ride out a day or two later.

you can pull the motor but when the crank goes bad it would take a wile to get parts not a quick fix
 
I carry a couple tie-downs just for this. Someone always carries a gas can so we empty the gas out of the dead sled and put it into everybody elses. Turn the skis around on the dead sled then put the track of the dead sled up on the back of the tunnel of a sled (preferably the most powerful sled of the bunch). Use the tie down straps to tie the track/suspension to the tunnel. You can get out of some really sh!tty places this way especially if you tie a sled onto the front of the tow sled.

This is by far the best way and usually works. If it doesn't you have to be innovative to see if you can pull out the bottom where you normally wouldn't. If neither of these ways work you have to pull the motor if it's a 2 stroke weather you like the idea or not. Unless you want to pay over 1K for a chopper. If it's a 4 stoke your not going to blow a motor and won't have to worry about it:face-icon-small-ton
 
Chopper. In the "local" Revy area it is usually 400-600. If it is from keystone, Area 51 it can be up to 1,000. I've called a lot of choppers for guys I come upon broken or in trouble and unprepared. Its kinda fun:face-icon-small-hap

Yup, I pulled a dead skidoo out of the airport in revy this way. Worked great
 
We've had to hook a looong rope to the dead sled then stick a sled above it 100'. Use A loop to put the rope through then tie it too two sleds going down hill. Works good for those deep pow days that you cant get any traction. The more guys the better cause you have to keep moving the sled 100' at a time.

You know - I read that twice and still sounds like your not sure if your asking or telling the story here. ???


I'm all for yanking the motor. If you know what your dooing and have ample tools, it can be done quite quickly.


In some snow conditions - you just kant git a track to pack - no matter how hard you hit it. But if you git it beat way down (all the air out of it) even tho it may still be loose, if you leave it sit overnight, THEN you should have a superhighway out in the morning! (Provided it doesn't snow a bunch or get -40* and turn it all to sugar...)

If limited to help of a few or so
Tie a sled to each spindle with a fair amount of rope 10 11 feet or so and point it and GO!! you may need to pack a track but have gotten a few sleds out of miserable places like this,yes there may be some scratches!!
Remember pull belt/chain so as to not have an anchor.
The Backwards sled thing works well if you have the conditions!!
 
Two days? So you're saying you didn't have cell phone service to tell your insurance agent where HIS sled is?
 
idaho has alotof bowls with trees. hook a big pulley up to a tree. take 1\8 inch cable. can be tied up like a rope and run the cable from the dead sled to the pulley. attatch to the good sled and have the good sled go down hill pulling up the dead sled. it might take a bunch of hooks but it works.
also a capstan winch works real good.
