Pulling the Starter and Battery out of an SKS and SBA....

I am thinking about pulling the battery and starter out of my SKS and SBA. I don't have the sleds in front of me (They are currently in Iowa and I am in California) and I can't find anything about it on here or YouTube. How much of a job is it? Anything in particular to be aware of? How much weight would I actually save?
