Pulling Nytro track

So I started tearing into my sled to pull the track to replace it with the challenger. I am using the service manual I downloaded. A couple questions for those in the know.
1. DO you have to follow all of the directions (ie: no shortcuts) and pull the chaincase, sprockets, secondary out?
2.I was trying to unbolt the suspension from the tunnel via the 4 bolts but they just seem to be spinning in the tubes??? ANy trick to this?
3. Any special tools required?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

thanks guys, i was thinking about trying that last night. I'll try it tonight and let ya know how it goes. for some reason i didnt think it would this involved!

look under instructions then fx nytro extension kit. lots of pics helps alot.

best tip is watch when you take the cover off the chain case there is a small oring around the upper shaft that goes between the spacer and the case area. also be pacient, whatch where you pull the spacers and washers noting how and where they go. one washer is a concave washer that acts as a binder, needs to go on the correct way. write on them with a sharpie the direction and where they go if you have to. if you are good you can pull the gears and chain out together as an assembly, this will help with not messing up the reverse gears in the case. when installing the case cover (if you have reverse) make sure the reverse lever in the cover is in the up position when reinstalling it. or your reverse wont work. if it is right, it will just drop on. you shouldnt have to force it at all.

as far as the skid bolts, on the front ones, snug one side down, loosen the other, snug the loose side back down, and loosen the opposite side and re snug down, then equally turn them out.

on the rear skid bolts you can hold the aluminum spacer with an allen wrench to keep one side from spinning, or you can get midevil and hold the spacer with channel locks.

to make you life easier to take out, and put the skid back in, flip the plastic spring retainers for the rear springs, on the rail forward, then carefully pull up on the torsion spring, and release its pressure.

when you are reinstalling the skid that is the last step AFTER all the mount bolts are in and tight. dont try to put the rear bolts in without having the rear springs loose. you will be pulling your hair out and back on here asking what you are doing wrong. LOL! ski

wow! thanks ski! I got everything out and was going for the re-install last night but couldnt find my locktite so stopped. I pulled the gears and chain together other then the reverse gear. Haha midevil I went and picked up channel locks! I did get it with an impact tho.
Youre talking about flipping the plastic spring tensioners to soft right?
Thnaks again man, I'd buy ya a beer if I could!

no not the ones that adjust the tension, the ones on the slide rails that hold the end of the spring when it goes through its travel. flip those forward, and pull up to release the tension. again be carefull they are under alot of tension. ski
