Pulling motor out....

What kind of heat tape are you guys using?? I got some foil adhesive backed tape that is for duct work, but it doesn't have any sort of insulation or matting in it. Its pretty much heavyduty aluminum foil with glue on the back!

Is it necessary to remove the fuel tank for removing the engine? It says to do it in the manual... Problem is is that my tank is FULL right now.

FasTrax sells a 24"x24" sheet of the insulated style for about $18

The tape doesn't have to be insulated, its may purpose is to reflect the heat away.

I used some from firstplaceparts.com and it turned out to be generic, I believe what you have will work just fine.

When you say the rear mounts are you talking about the polaris parts or the hi-perf parts?

i dont knw if they are any different in durometer, i just went with what was cheaper between Hi-Perf and Polaris....just make SURE you order them as 06 rear mounts...NOT under 05..

Dan.

Yep, you must pull the tank

are there any special tools i will need?

Only tools i can think of off my head right now, are..

--fuel line removal tool..covered HEAVILY on here...
--clutch puller/clutch holding tool (IF you pull the clutch)
--the rest you can get with basic hand tools and lots of Barney Band-Aids ;)

I'm pretty sure the intake boots crack from vibration. The motor shakes and the air box is solid so the boots are constently flexing. The heat makes the rubber more brittle. So heat tape will help but good motor mounts would fix it.
It is way easier to pull the engine with the tank off. There are hoses and wires all over the place. It's quite easy to pull the tank you just need a little tool to remove the fuel line. If the tank is too heavy eat some more wheaties or syphon some of the fuel out.
Check you motor mount really well and if there cracked replace them.

great input, but personally i think its the oppisite...(like it matters what i think, lol)

the heat off the y-pipe will dry the rubber intake boots out, cause they to deteriorate the rubber and in turn the vibration from the motor shaking tears the dry, brittle boots...

but then again all i tend to do is...:blah: lol

I was going to ask this same question but it looks like Guido answer it. Thanks!!
You can get this at ACE, or Home Depot, Lowes, maybe even Walmart I have to check and it is WAY CHEEPER than what the Polaris Dealership charges for this stuff. I am covering everything under the hood and Pipe, Can and Y-pipe are headed over to get Ceramic coated.
