pulling motor - 07 700 cfi

So something in my steering went foul the other day. A buddy and I were balls deep in a creek draw having the time of our lives when I tried to sidehill up around some trees, counter-steered and bars turned but skis did not. Straight into a big tree, destroyed my bumper and the hood bracket, some plastic, pushed my slp pipe in pretty good, and I think I even broke my 2 front motor mounts.

Polaris, in all their wisdom, located all of the steering linkages way under the motor. Wonderful. I've got the service manual and it has a pretty detailed step-by-step for removing and reinstalling the engine. I'm fairly mechanical and I have a lot of tools, so I figure I'll give it a shot.

Any tips before I dive in?

I'm also thinking about pulling the oil injection out while I'm in there, and just running premixed. My sled has had a history of oil issues. Has anyone come across any good write-ups on how to properly do that?

I have done mine a few times. You will need fuel line disconnects. Take some pics of the cable and wiring harnesses so you have a reference to where they go. I also took the short end of an allen wrench and cut it shorter for easier access to remove the Y pipe. I also tape the retaining nuts in place for the throttle and oil cables so they aren't too far off for reassembly. A set of crows feet wrenches are great for the balljoint that connects to the steering post also.

This would probably be a good time to replace your throttle body boot. For guys that are not removing the oil injection, it is imperative to inspect the oil lines for rubbing as well.

When you reinstall the exhaust manifold but a reg metric bolt in on the bottom nearest the clutch.Makes it a lot easier to tighten.When I pulled my engine I found my steering bolt was loose.
 
im pulling my motor on my 700 too and have been thinking a lot the last few days bout the spark plug engine hoisting and i havent been able to comfort myself yet haha. somebody post pics of the motor suspended by the spark plug holes :D

A lot about this post makes sense and gives me confidence. I already have a fuel line tool for when I replaced my filter. I was planning to take photos of the wiring stuff for sure too, because I don't want to mess that up! (Or tape them and write numbers on the tape. I was looking at the Y pipe yesterday and those allen bolts do look like a bitch.. Does it really have to come off though? I thought about keeping the cable nuts in place for easier reassembly too. I used to be a bike mechanic and that stuff all makes sense to me.. I've been reading up on the steering assembly and the crows feet sound pretty necessary, just wish they weren't like $90 for the set!! And last but not least, I've already replaced my throttle body adapter AND oil line! Whew!

That motor mount tool looks handy, I wonder if my bigass 36mm axle nut socket will fit, that'd be convenient!
