Pull String went bye bye!!

I just went out to start my XP and boink, there goes my pull string??!!!!:mad::confused::eek::confused::mad::rolleyes:
I'm f'n pissed. Is there an easy way to get it fixed? I just brought is back from the dealer for the recall and update repairs.
Should I just take it back and have them take care of it under warranty??

I'm glad it happened noow!!!:rolleyes::D

Step into the 21st century and put an E-start on that beast.

There was a thread last year about the pull rope vibrating against a bracket or something up near the handle fraying the rope. After so many miles, the rope breaks. One solution brought up was to carefully untie the rope from the pull handle, and slide a piece of shrink tubing down over the rope to the place that the fraying was taking place, and shrink it down over the rope, giving it some protection. When you are done, re-tie on the handle, and viola, you are done.

Personally, I went with electric start on my XP because I am lazy. My pull rope has been used ONCE, on accident. :rolleyes:

kinda a PITA on the revs with the cover behind the bulkead, its about 4 or 5 torx screws, pull the cover off, unwind and route the rope up. just be caregfull you dont wind the spring up to much before you rout the rope, or when you pull it all the way out if binds up the spring, and wont coil back in, thats a pain right there!!

I went and checked on my new 09 to see where it rubs so I could do the heat shrink trick before it got frayed and it was done already, not sure if it was my dealer or the factory?

Now I am really curious...

I will have to look at my buddy's '09 to see if his starter rope is like that as well. I know my '08 isn't. Everybody check if thier '09 has had this done. If they all do, I would say factory, if only some, I would say good dealer prep with attention to detail.

Damn that sucks. I did the shrink tube trick to mine mid-season last year. I would take it back to the dealer and let them have fun with it.

Well, I guess that answers THAT question!

Obviously 'Doo realized that there was a problem. Do you think that there will be a recall on '08 starter ropes?? LOL :rolleyes:
