Pull cord: Oem versus Cobra cord

Switched the Polaris pull cord on my 850 NA to a Cobra cord hoping to reduce the effort to start the engine. From the first pull, I could feel a more direct connection and
slightly less effort. But, it vibrates like crazy around 4-5000 rpm, making me nuts. Tried using foam strips under the handle, shortening the rope for more tension, to no avail. It's so loud, overcoming the noise from the engine. Went back to Polaris rope, much better in that regard.

Must have done something wrong. Not worth figuring out though. Leave the stock one on and be glad you only wasted $35 and 15 minutes. Could've been worse.
Well, it was more than 15 minutes as I took it apart three times trying to figure what was wrong. The guide pulley, the rope guide bracket, all good. The only thing that might increase vibration is the 4 titanium bolts that were used to secure the starting cup. My call is the Cobra rope conducts vibration and hits amplified harmonics. Too bad, I liked the pull but the conductivity and resulting vibration were too much for me.

I did the same thing on my 850. Cobra cord and ti bolts in the starter cup.

Super easy to do and 0 rattles or issues etc. Couldn't tell a difference between OEM and cobra until you were pulling the rope.

Only issue was the small sting of regret that comes with wasted money and effort.

My boost has a cobra cord from the factory and also has 0 issues

Is it accurate that all 9Rs come with Cobra cord from the factory? The cord on the used 9R I bought is black and looks like normal recoil rope. I believe I also read that Polaris made changes to increase recoil rope life in '24 or '25. Anyone know what the changes were?

I have the same problem on my '22 Boost. I replaced it because the oem one was frayed. Also tried heavy-duty rubber weatherstripping under the handle and it doesn't last. The rattling is awful.

It is the pulley that is the culprit; has a ton of side to side play. I'm going to shim mine and see if it improves the rattle. My guess would be that the lower diameter Cobra cord puts less pressure on pulley wheel.
