PTO Shaft Cap

I was just going to clean up my clutches after our 5 day run in Togwotee and notices very black oil on the cap with the 3 screws that cover the bearing and seal for the pto shaft. Is this common? I never noticed it being this fresh and again very black. I guess maybe I wipe it off everytime but this time I took notice to how much was there. It almost has enough to drip off one of the bottom screw heads.

Do you have your VES selonoid hose rerouted? Where it dumps black goo stock, is just in the front, PTO side.

this is only on the brass cap with the 3 screws the 2 bottom ones have the oil and the bottom of the cap as well everywhere above the shaft is clean except a little belt dust

Pull that cover off and see how much oil is behind the shield, you maybe suprised from where it's comming from!

Oil on seal cover

I found the same thing when I pulled the clutch to install motor mount kit. Took the cover off and found injection oil all over inside the cover. It was the early stage of crank seal failure. I replaced the seal and found the outer seal lip had flattened allowing oil to leak and belt dust to be drawn in on vacume stroke. The inner lip was damaged too. I've been thinking this might be the reason for some crank bearing failures reported on here. Make sure to check oil injection line fitting for leaks as this would also look like a seal leak.
