PSA - cheapish NGK plugs/CO

Hey all - just went to my local Advance Auto Parts (Littleton, CO) to order some plugs - NGK BR9ECS. He did not have them in stock at the store, but the warehouse had plenty.

$4.50/each.

In researching "the plug" for the sled, it wound up being kinda like my dirtbike - the KTM calls for an NGK with a shorter ceramic bit (outside the engine), forget the number - you can use the "normal" ceramic plug, which is taller, and costs $1.29 or so, vs the shorty, which is $7-10. Works fine on my bike, supposedly some other KTMs have clearance issues and you kindasorta HAVE to use the shorty.

In this case, the difference is internal - lots of people said they use the BR9(not ECS) - the "normal" looking plug. I'm leery of screwing around with plugs INside the motor, so I would probably have bought the ECS anyway - but I was expecting $8.99 each or so.

At $4.50/ea, I'll absolutely get the "right" plug. Saving $2.50-3/plug is not worth it - $7? Yeah, I'm listening, but $3? ehhh....

So - Advance Auto Parts seems to be a good place to get the ECS plugs cheap(er).

.02c - maybe not news to anyone, but I was fully prepared for "$8.xx each." $4.50? Bought 6.

Thanks for the heads up. I've also found that plugs and some other stuff is much cheaper at auto parts places.

oh yeah, I always get plugs from carquest around me, the prices are always right around half what the dealers charge, and the EXACT same ones, when i was running cat BR9EYA's last winter in my epicly failed bigbore sled, i went through around a set of plugs every other ride, but at $4.50 for a pair at carquest, vs. $4.50 for a single at the cat shop, and 5 miles closer to the house, I dont get why people still buy plugs at the dealer.

as for solid vs. hollow tops, i havent found the price to be different for either where i buy em. BR9ES are $2.24 per plug either solid of hollow top.

Are they the solid top?

Don't know yet - they just called, gotta go pick them up (not bad, went in at 8:30, they had them in the store by 11). I don't think it really matters if it is the screw-on top-bit or one piece - if screw on, I just tighten it with pliers to be sure; the cap should contact the outside.

Will post, though - I just went in and asked for BR9ECS, did not specify anything else - will check gap and whatnot. I have a new set of plugs in the sled, an older set that I took out (still ran) and 6 spares as soon as I go to the store. IE, I should be set on plugs - the sled does not seem to foul plugs (knockonwood), unlike my dirtbike.

I figure spares are a good thing, though - the only time I've had to walk out of the woods was the one time I did not have a spare plug. "We're only going for a quickie ride...." I thought.

Famous last words.
