protaper handle bar hooks

Id just like to say watch out everyone i got stabbed by the hook on my protapers yesterday. we made a drop in the mtns and it was maybe 20ft distance an 15 down , i hit it and went all skewed in the air and landed half in a previous hole, the sled bounced to the right and i barely held on and decided to bail as it was squirrely. as i bailed the bars turned to the left and my knee hit the hook and the other knee snapped my reverse lever, then i kartwheeled halfway down the mtn. There is now a hole the size of a quarter right above my knee. all i got is stitches thankfully Just watch those hooookkkkss !! on painkillers too

I hooked my left knee too. Huge bruise and swelling. I wear knee/shin protection now and turned the hooks forward more. Hope to never repeat.

i got rid of them the third ride

got a pair of the old style hooks and cut down some foam cell grips and put them on. much better. the stock hooks are too hard and too slippery as well as dangerous. make the switch. you will love them.

about 10 years ago I hit a rock with an XLT with the 45* hooks. Punched a hole through my leather snow pants and ripped my jeans down to my ankle... any hook can be dangerous. I can imagine these new ones would easily tear through some skin

4 weeks out from taking one in the thigh. Half a grapefruit sized hematoma for a couple weeks, and whole thigh turned every color of the rainbow. Down to half a golfball or so now after time and PT.

I didn't miss any riding time but same thing with the hematoma. It looked like I had a rainbow colored third knee and when it released my foot turned black. Attractive

replace the meat hooks

with rsi 45 or 90 degree aluminum hooks for micro taper bars or sport teck has the ultra hooks in various colors but hard plastic. the aluminum hooks dont have the grip already on them. you add a nice cushy and grippy foam cell grip with large end and no more hard slippery meat hooks. costs about $35 and took 10 minutes. allen wrenches to take out and replace and hairspray to slide the foam cell grip onto the hook.
