For comparisons; If you put Alaska over the lower 48 states, with South-East Alaska over Florida, the Aleutian Islands would extend past the California coastline, Barrow and the Prudhoe bay oil fields would be above the US / Canada border. We can split Alaska down the middle and make Texas the third largest state. We have more than twice as much coastline as the rest of the US combined. It isn't at all like the maps you saw in grade school!
So Yes It is an Awesome endless playground especially when you consider most cities in the US have bigger populations than our whole state! Hence my comments in other posts about riding and never seeing another track much less another person.
Alaska's population as of the 2011 census 772,718 people, Alaska's area 663,300 square miles so nearly a square mile (0.92) per resident.
Compared to the rest of the US at 310,819,199 people occupying 3,130,783 square miles. Which has you lower 49 state's residents each having 0.01 Square mile per resident. Nearly 1/100th as much elbow room! Some might call us anti-social.
