Propane sleds

I think I saw a propane apex in IP saturday. The guy had a large stainless tank under his seat and then a asmaller on on his tunnel. The sled sounded good with the turbo sounding like a powerstroke.

The rider thought he was hot stuff packing the ski's down the trail. I think he forgot he was riding with a old school phazer and a gen 2 800.

Whats the pros/cons to propane?? I know one thing...... It looks fast.

110 octane for the price of pump gas, burns clean, no fuel pump you can hook up a barbeque and cook on the trail. The cons, don't run out of fuel!, not real easy to refuel out in the sticks, not sure with sleds but a pretty big loss of power on trucks, no turbos of course maybe with turbos the power loss goes away?. I'm no expert but those are the few things I know. Hope this helps.

Could have been A guy out of Dillon bought Brad Story's sled I believe. Could be wrong but thats what I heard. Lots of HP to be made but sounds like a pain in the *** doin' the whole propane thing.

I think that was Shane Hedden from Helena wasn't it? I know he has one...

Running boost on propane you dont notice a power loss but actually gain power. Power has a octane rating of 110 but when it burns it is more like 124. With that kind of octane you can safely run higher boost with less risk of detonation.

Also.. like on the apex's.. they are very very heavy.. not very pratical for most people.. i believe they are like 8-10k for the kit and install

fuel is easy 100lb bottle in the back of the truck.it makes a ton of hp & burns really clean & does not detonate unless you are really a bad tuner at 26lbs boost.cost is the bad thing but if you ride allot you will get allot of it back, ever check the price for 120+ oct fuel:D

So I am assuming that the propane is just for the yammi's that are moded, not for a stock one right?

You can run propane on any gas enigine but with out mods you will lose power, as stated above its perfect for boosted sleds, you can turn the boost up and and make a ton of power. I seen one of Brad Storys buddies riding a turbo m7 with propane, it was a clean install looked great, but last time i seen him he was on a propane turbo Apex monster, looked a lot like Brads rocket. How sweet it would be!!! Guess I'll just ride my King Cat till she dies. Ha ha.
