Hey fellas ive been reading this fourm for a couple years now and love all the information that I get from you guys. Last year I rode a 08 RMZ 450 with tge TS kit and I absolutely loved it. So my plan for this year was to try out a different bike and get more HP without having to get a turbo. So I went out and bought a 94 kx500. It was in pretty desent shape and the motor ran pretty desent as well.. well this is where the project starts I guess..

New goodies going on the beast:

-forward motion port an polish with 525BB
-fmf gnarly pipe
-striped the frame and painted it all black
-pro taper fat bars
-apt 38mm smartcarb
-ufo black plastic kit
-gripper seat
-custom made foot pegs
-oury mtn grips

Still havent made up my mind on what im going to do with my intake setup yet.

Hey will have to get together for a ride I'm in fort mac too bud of mine just had thumper racing do up his 530 ktm an there now doing a 570 kit on mine ,not many snow biker up here yet

Awesome setup, go nuts on the pipe! Go for as much power as you can, ridability is second to power on snow.

With that said, get a decompression button on your head, AND a spare kickstarter.. Carry bandages and duct tape in your pack, that bike will eventually tear your calf up, and you will thank me later.

A well done KX500 is a beast, the problem is the range even with a big tank isn't that good. You'll have to pack more gas than you can imagine.

From what I've been reading its not any worse then a 450 on fuel consumption. The guy that built "kx500 monster" last year only ran a stock 1.7gal tank with his jerrycan and he said he could go all day??
 
I'm 99% sure you'll find out for yourself that the fuel range isn't all day on a 500. Not unless all day means something different to you than it does me.

Either way, that's gonna be a wicked setup. I know how cold it gets up there, and as a result I suspect your all day will be a shorter day than it would be for me on the coast.

Well hopefully with the smartcarb it will make it have better range then the stock one.. all my riding is in revy or valemount.. no where fun to ride in ft mac
 
I'd be interested to see what you come up with for the intake, I'm going to run pretty similar setup, apart from the BB. I've been wrestling with carb heat and wether to run a Thermostat. sounds like a great build, looking forward to pictures.
 
Im building kind of the same thing, 523 bb with porting, digital ignition, Gnarly pipe, 40mm smart carb. any info on what everyone else is doing to make the KX work would be great. Also have the KTM carb heater coming.
 
Hey, I'm also in Ft. Mac. Currently building a CR500 AF LT timbersled, 38mm APT....and a long list of other goodies
 
I just got off the phone with Bill at Thermobob. He has decided to machine his new small 70C (165F) tstat with 5/8 nipples. These will splice right into the 5/8 CR500/KX500 outlet hoses. No monkeying with 3/4 couplers. Bonus

Also i think the 40mm Smarty works better than the 38mm on the KX. May be worth a call to APT. The CR likes the 38mm
 
How come the 40mm works better for the KX? That cool about the thermobob stat, gonna have to look at that when they come out.
