Well, we finally got the Gov'ner to sign legislation making your Discover Pass good for two (2) vehicles. This includes your current one, as the law is retroactive.
Also, park rangers have the latitude to negotiate a group fee for events at their discretion. For example if you have a club clean up day at Tampico, you could work with the Ranger to avoid all vehicles involved being required to have a DP by working with them and coming up with a lesser fee. Or maybe you want to have a get together at a State Park, again, you can negotiate a lesser fee for those involved. NICE.
This is a good thing and I want to offer up personal thanks and Beer and Dinner for all the good people that have worked on getting this Pass in place, and for making it workable.
Really. I know this pass isn't popular, but it is needed.
I want to host a BBQ for all involved. Shoot me a PM with your contact info (and the info for the ones that don't want to take credit) and I'll get it put together.
And please remember that this year alone the Parks Service is looking at an 11 million dollar shortfall. They have lost 30% of their personnel and many positions have gone from permanent to seasonal. Plus they have be subjected to pay reduction, pay freezes and benifit reduction. I don't think many of us would want to put in 20+ years for a company and then get cut out just before retirement. It's easy to get pizzed and point fingers in the wrong direction, try to remember the folks on the ground are just like you and me, working stiffs trying to do a good job and take care of their family. The next cut will be park closers which is really bad as they are an inexpensive way for many struggling folks to spend a fun day with the family.
Maybe a nice attitude and a thanks out to park personnel would help make them feel appreciated. Sure couldn't hurt !
So GOOD NEWS !!! It's easy to get locked on all the issues that we don't like, but let's focus on all the many things that we have that ARE GOING RIGHT!!
I don't know about ya'll, but it seems to me that we, snowmobiliers in WA, have much to be thankful about !
