problem with ISP

problem with IDAHO STATE POLICE

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem? I was heading up to McCall last saturday morning and was pulled over by an Idaho State Police woman as I was coming out of Cascade. She proceded to tell me my sled deck was over width because it stuck out past the drivers side rear fender and it was going to be some thing like a $189 ticket. I then compared it to my overhead pickup camper which is exactly the same width and no one has ever wanted to give me a ticket for being over width. After it was all said and done I recieved a warning and was told I had to get an over width permit. I have since been to the county courthouse, called the ISP headquarters and been refered to the Port Of Entry supervisor who told me I was fine up to 8 ft 6in, my deck is 8 ft wide which gives me 6 in to spare. What to you all think about this? any one else have this broblem?

Not sure about your specific laws, but I believe in most locations, as long as you have marker lights (amber on the front/sides, red to the rear), and are under that magic 8'6" width, you are fine without permits.

yah, I had some local yocal in pacific co. wa. tell me the same thing,he had been on the force for over 20 yrs and assured me if he seen me again in his co. he would write me a ticket.u can't argue with these know it alls(been on the force for 20 yr,I know it all jack ars)I got home checked the revised code of wa. I was in my legal limits, you can go 8'6".run clearance lights and ur good, just don't catch any of these poo flingers on a bad day or they will try to write a ticket, especially if they r a greenie weenie.don't argue(they know it all)just take it to court, they'll more than likely throw it out:mad:

If that is the case what about all the guys who have flat beds pickups. Alot of guys have the flat bed without duallys so they really stick out past the tires. I think just make sure your deck has some marker lights on the side and you should be fine.

ive been looking all over the internet and have seen decks from 8 ft to 8ft6in and have yet to see a single one that has side marker lights on them

I ran into that too, they even tried to make us put plates on one of our trailor mounted pieces of equipment which DMV says can't be done. You'll beat the over width if you're under 8'6" but you are required to be able to see around it so make sure you have the wide mirrors or they'll just write you a ticket for that instead. I'm glad somebody wants to do that job especially for what they get paid but I've noticed that they send them out under trained and overly abrassive.

update your thread title. I thought it was computer ISP also.

I have a flatbed truck for my sleds and it is just under 8'6" and do not get hassled but friends with their sled decks do:confused:

That deck is under legal width so you are fine.
