Problem starting a 2007 Arctic Cat M8

In February 2009 I purchased a 2007 Arctic Cat M8 with 250 miles on it. The only modification made to the sled was adding a goldfinger, new spark plugs had been installed right before I bought it.

On a number of random experiences, in the middle of the day (never had issues when starting the day) I've had problems starting my sled. Typically, it will start and then when I give it gas it will slowly sputter out. Usually after it does this once or twice, the engine seems to be flooded and won't even get started. I then get the engine on as flat as ground as possible and give it about 20 minutes.

While this has happened multiple times after some pretty mellow riding, if I roll the snowmobile, it is almost a guarantee that the engine will stall/flood or whatever it's doing.

When this issue occurs typically the sled starts more successfully by revving the engine as I'm pulling the start cord and immediately after it starts.

If anyone has any idea why this is happening and or what I can do to fix this, please let me know.

Thanks,

First check to see that the TPS is not getting switched by the Gold Finger. You should have a tiny bit of slop in the cable between the lefty and the flipper and make sure the flipper sits at zero/loose and is not getting pulled slightly by the lefty.

Second, check the throttle cable at the throttle body/fuel rail that your throttle cable is adjusted correctly.

Third, Check the fuel pickup pucks inside the gas tank. They should be flat on the bottom of the tank and should not move.

Lastly check the fuel injectors. Unplug and replug them and inspect them to make sure you dont have a wire rubbed through.

I think you meant TORS, the TPS adjust for throttle advance. TORS is the little plunger on the flipper that can give problems with a lefty.

Yep, yep .. same happened to me when I tighted the lever bolt too tight. TORS stuckage ...

you can always take apart the throttle block and unhook the tors, i would suggest only doing this if you run a thether...

the previous posts should get all the technical points....another operational point is that when you go to shut the engine off for some reason, especially if its' just been run hard, is to let it idle for 10 seconds or so before shutting it off....
