problem on my rmk

ever since we got back from togwotee last week my sled has been, idk, doggy sort of speek. it seems to have a low tone to it when it runs and it has never had that. It doesnt seem to have the power either. It backfires sometimes also.

at first we thought maybe it was the belt slipping so we put a new one on but it didnt make a differance. it idles good but once you put the throttle on it seems to bog down.

could it be in the carburators or do you think its deeper than that.

thanks

what could i do to check that out and see if thats it. maybe rejet it richer and look at the valves?

sounds like the temp sensor...common on that year. It'll retard your ignition if it thinks it's hot. You might also check the thermostat...that's another problematic item on that sled.
Are your heads getting hot?

Another possibility is the throttle switch...is everything thawed out? Any ice in the throttle can mess it up.

Check for cracked bellows on your exhaust valves. That may be it, but when it happened to mine it seemed to run fine at lower RPMs but would just not pull over 6500 or so. I also had the overheating/retarding situation while testing my XC-turned-RMK tonight. This was because the snow conditions here in MN are pretty set up and crusty and I was just putting around so no snow to the coolers due to the 2" track. This was a way different sensation... any time I gave it 1/3+ throttle the temp light came on and it ran like it was hitting a rev limiter.

what ya runnin for jets? if you are still jetted for togwottee riding in south dakota wouldnt be that good of an idea

It kinda sounds like your crank is goin. Have you had it rebuilt yet? Because all of polaris edges have had that problem. I know before mine went out it was doing that. Hopefully its not that, becuz there not cheap, but u better get it checked out. Its cheaper before it goes!

First check your jetting and your belt. If they are good, pull off the exhaust manifold and check the piston skirts and make sure they are not cracked.

I second the post about losing compression. Thats what they do when you partially melt a piston or score it badly.

So, check reeds first then pull the exhaust off and look at the pistons.

i checked the exhaust valves and they look fine. i also changed the plugs and it didnt make a differance. its off to the dealership this afternoon to see if they can figure anything out. hopefully its not the crank

Usually when cranks go you will know it. It is not as common for a 700 to lose a crank, 800's that's a different story. You have probably lost a piston. I wouldn't worry about it being a crank.
