Pro Tracks Speeds?

I've been following a gearing thread in the Kitty section. Guys are claiming 45 - 55 mph track speed in loose powder. In the 2 years I've had my Pro, I've never looked at the speedo. I just watch the tach and temp. What are you guys seeing for track speed on 163 and 155 tracks. I'm just curious about stock, not modded sleds. I realize that a Pro is less powered than other sleds, but considerably lighter on the scale, so track speed is NOT the only thing to think about. I'm considering a different sled next year and I'm scared to jump ship. I've owned 9 Polaris sleds since I was 15 and only owned one Cat (07 M8) Thanks. I was pleased with the M8, just not the local service.

I was wondering what pro's were turning for track speed too. When I rode one I forgot to look at it. I would say a stock PCM8 is peaking at 50 mph and more consistently pulling 45 mph in deep powder, sometimes slowing down to 42. Depending on snow conditions the fastest I've seen on mine is 50mph at 6000'. I think seeing 55mph would be an ideal setup on an ideal day in ideal snow.

Track speed comparisons = can of worms but it is THE most useful part of your display for tuning. Just remember elevation, type of snow and when you look on the angle of slope is different for everyone it seems. So stick to your own no.'s. when comparing.

If you want to compare to previous years of Cat and '13 Poo I'll give you my no.'s.
I was told how underpowered the Poo would feel and believed it. Bought it for the handles lol. I ended up happy and surprized with the trackspeed thing.

In my conditions the Cat's came out of the box about 42 43ish and I worked them up to 47 48 ish with power and clutching additions. Same conditions, same test areas, My Poo came out of the box at 40 41ish and worked that to 45 46ish with pretty much the same additions except for a head on the Poo too lol.
I'm not a hill poker by any means but when going up the Pro gets up on the snow (and I don't try to set up my sled to poach or care to) with less throttle and this for me gets me higher where and what I ride.

The biggest difference for me has been the consistancy of track speed over time. The Poo has only taken basic clutch maintenace to stay there and that is with a worn out belt with a string pulled from a bad decision on alignment one day.
My Cat's needed more maintenance and a new belt or my track speeds would fall off below the Poo or even worse require me to get out the Leatherman.
Also, this Poo with her clutches-chassis combo has been very nice to me. Even with terrible clutching experiments she just gets a little hot and let's me come home and go back to the way things were. I've never been " belt whipped". Not true with my Cat's. they made me pay if I screwed around.

My Pro has been like the Energizer Bunny for me lol. It just keeps going and going lol.

I've always said anyone can win their own race lol. So I think we should compare track speeds between sleds that have a 1000 miles or more on their belts lol.

Slow ground speed in big powder on a steep climb will give you 39 MPH at 9,000'. I've seen 40 MPH in the same conditions on a well tuned Proclimb, but the Polaris would out highmark it by quite a margin when the same rider switched sleds. When using trackspeed as a tuning aid you need to have the same rider launch from the same spot and take his read at the same place on the hill because opinions on speed vary wildly. I've been told several times that a certain sled will turn 46 MPH all the way over the mountain, but upon riding it myself and looking at the speedo I only saw 46 MPH at the base of the hill and 38 MPH all the way over the mountain. Most big bore 900's will only give you 42 MPH in a big powder climb. If you can maintain 40 MPH with minimal ground speed you're doing great.

That's what I have always been told too. I compared my 2 sleds back to back on the same hill (wifey was riding my 154 SkiDoo and I was on the 155 Pro) and the Skidoo was pulling about 44 mph and the Pro was pulling 41. But....the SkiDoo has Roosterbuilt clutching and the etec motor, so it should be pulling more mph. I'd love to have an etec in a Pro chassis, that would be a fun setup.

Claims of 50+mph track speeds from a stockish sled is like a diesel getting 20mpg pulling a four place trailer... It doesn't exist.

HAHA I like this comment. So true. My Tpro running around 11-12# will pull 58mph track speed. My old TApex on 18# would only pull 96mph. If you can get into the 40s on a stock sled your doing well.

One thing that I have noticed, is not all speedo's are calibrated the same. I have a 11 Pro and my buddy rides an 09 M8. Everytime we go riding, doing the same thing all day long, he would get at least 5 miles (if not 10) more miles on his sled. He claims over 50+ track speed, I run in the low 40's. I used to run even lower, but have since switched from a 155 stock to a 163 Camo Ex 2.5 with a C3 belt drive 2.33:1 ratio. Pulls much farther up the hill with even higher track speed. That being said, it is very hard to compare track speeds due to so many variables, it is not a for sure thing.

that is SOOOOO TRUE!!! those guys are reading their overhead computers and truly think they are getting that mileage. I can get 20+ unloaded, middle of the summer, flat ground, on cruise control at 65mph with no traffic. love it when guys say that they get mileage like that pulling trailers, it proves to me to NEVER believe a word they say. I just completely ignore them from that point on.

38-42 on a stock pro163 at 4-7k elevation is very right. Anyone claiming 50mph in any kind of powder on a stock pro has obviously spent to much time in safety meetings.
