Pro Taper Mounted Hand Guards on base RMK

E

Well-known member
so i picked up some pro taper mounts for some hand guards for my base RMK 600
i couldnt really find any other mounts that would work, as you dont have much room to work with, with the larger controls on the base RMK's bars

I played with the pro taper mounts a thousand different ways to try and make them work
this is the only was i could find them to fit properly
after reading another thread, a few others said they used these mounts as well
the thing about these mounts and guard is they allow you to pivot and move the guard itself to make it work to sit level

now this isnt the "proper" way to mount them i know, but i think it will work
i put some good ol hockey tape on the bars before installing the mounts
it seemed too slick to mount them straight on the bars

i tried to move the mounts themselves and the guards and they are damn solid
the guards themselves move a little if enough force is put on them, BUT...this is ok incase of a rollover it will give a bit

i am thinking of putting some type of cross member from the outer hole on the guard mount, back to the bar mount itself...... but not sure if its needed

did anyone else use these mounts in a silimar way?
or is this completely a$$ backwards and im a dumbass....dont worry you wont hurt my feelings :face-icon-small-ton

lemme know if you think this will work ok set up like this

When I had my 08 600 rmk I mounted the pro taper handguards on it very similar to the way you did yours. My mounts were a little different as they only had one hole in them but that was before Polaris upgraded the mounts to the two bolt hole style. It should work just fine this way. Mine would sometimes rotate loose after rolling the sled but I'd rather have them come a little loose rather then break so I just carried an allen wrench with ,e.

A short piece of thin aluminum strap, measured and drilled on both ends, between the 'lower' arm hole and the open guard hole, would stop any rotation. FWIW.

pretty much exactly what i was thinking last night
ill see if i can find something to work today
maybe some exhaust or muffler strapping doubled up would work
as its already pre-drilled w holes
find the fit, paint it black and install it

it really would be fine the way it is, but ill try to snug it up some more yet

I used the powermadd mounts on my rmk. I ran them between the brake and grip and throttle and grip. Had to grind a bit of the throttle out so it would still go WOT and had to take the parking brake off...........its solid and i dont notice it now but it was annoying to figure out. I also cant move my throttle, its basically straight back which is ok for standing up but not sitting down, i grinded a bit out to twisted it down a bit. as for the parking brake i never use it. if i need to i wrap the brake and the grip with a bungee.
