pro selenoid/power valve operation

still chasing rpms. i took the rubber vent hoses off the two power valves
that run up to the selenoid to make sure they were not plugged.
my question is should i be able to blow air through the selenoid without the motor running?
Thanks guys

top rpm

Have had the same problem. Have 2 stock pros with 62 grams and they will not pull 8200. The best is 7900-8100. they seem lazy on top. So I took the valve off and the guillitine was pretty clean but under the bellows or diaphram was nasty thick oil goo. Cleaned that and removed the nut and bellows from the guillitine and drilled out the small bleed holes to 3/32" Not sure but these are 2011's used sleds, we have a 2 rides on them. They have been on VES gold and seemed that they were too gummy. I use Redline racing oil and any of my sled have rarely had the valves cleaned since. I am not saying its the oils fault but thats my findings.

When I clean the valves I clean the whole ves system. Make sure the passages in the cyl. are clean I use some 1/16" weld wire to clean the holes in the cyl and blow with air (make sure you run the pistons down out of the way) Clean the solonoid and hoses also. I will report back if the rpms come back up.

targhee77,

Unless things have changed from earlier CFI engines, the exh. valve solenoid is open (venting) until the engine reaches a certain rpm (around 6000 - not sure exactly). It is venting exh. pressure from the bellows which prevents the valves from opening. If you suspect you have a solenoid issue preventing you from reaching peak rpm, disconnect the hoses from the exhaust valves and cap the fittings on the valves. If the solenoid is causing you rpm loss, you should see full rpm after doing this, but the sled may not run as "crisp" in the lower rpm ranges.
