Pro RMK vs IQ vs IQR mountain modified

My girlfriend has a 08 rmk 600 iq that I've rode. Absolutely love the handling of the sled. All I've read is that the pro's are that except much better. What I'm wondering is how does a iqr modified for the mountains compare to a pro handling wise?

Well i dont think your going to be able to compare the 2 equally depending on what "modified for the mountains" exactly means.

Is it a natural RMK or the IQ Race chassis that has been extended?

Also, what kind of mods are you thinking of doing to the iQ?

I dont own an RMK, but figured id throw out a couple questions that need to be answered to get the ball rolling for your summer build!

I was thinking more of the iqr's that have 151 plus tracks, larger fuel tanks, either different motors put in or modified for mountain use. I've seen a few that have been done very nicely and was mostly wondering how they compare to the pro's for handling and climbing.

I LOVE how I can sidehill my girlfriends sled. it seems to be very tippy on the trails but I'm only on them to get to the hills. I'm wondering if an IQR with a longer track and narrowed front suspension would handle as well or better or worse compared to the other two.

I plan on leaving the pro bone stock if i go through with it. Unless it sounds like crap then it might get a can.

I personally think after owning both that there is no comparison between the two. If you find an IQR that has been done right to a T (trust me it's hard, many out there are hacked together) it is not even as good as the older IQ Raw chassis for mountain riding IMO.

The pro just has it together, the boards are narrower to promote steeper angle side hilling, the footwells are better, the rear suspension geometry is more conducive to climbing, and it's so much narrower in the body that you don't "panel out" like an IQR does. Thats probably my biggest complaint with the IQR is that it panels out so easy cause the body shape is kind of round and bulbous.

I would hands down no question get a pro or an IQ raw over a modded IQR again.

I expect having spent time on the IQ/Raw and IOR (without riding a pro) that if you are doing any big drops or jumps that the IQR is still, hands down, the best out there. It is tough as nails. It has been around for years in part because Polaris has had the worst time coming up with a better design. But, the negative side of that says that if you don't have non-race shocks on the set-up it will trench and ride like a board when doing the 'sane and mudane'...

Also consider buying parts. IQR sleds are custom one-offs. Harder to fix if you don't personally have a full service garage at your disposal.

Hope you have a great time with whatever you choose!

treemagnet is right about the comparison. I have had 2 IQ chassis sleds and currently own a Pro and an IQR (440 short track). First off, nothing boondocks like the Pro. I liked the IQ sleds even though they have had some bad press. But it takes more modifications to make the IQ work well where the Pro is solid out of the box.

The IQR makes a great hill climbing sled because it is so stable compared to the Pro. It will hold a line awesome but does not side hill well. Mine has the race skis and 121" track so it's not going to side hill work a dam.

If you want a good mountain sled I would go with a Pro first. I've thought about modifying my IQR but you will spend more money than it will ever be worth. Just see some of them that are for sale.

Just buy the pro, by the time you do up the iqr with mod motor, track, skid ect ect ect you have 25k in the sled in a heartbeat. like my carbon edge chassis..will climb anything but my stock pro is just plain great everywhere after riding the pro the edge is like a hemicuda..big wide insane fast and hard to control
