PRO-RMK Shocks on an IQ

What are everyone's thoughts on PRO-RMK shocks on an IQ? I actually have an Assault. I think the PRo's front shocks are 17.5" compared to 18" for the Assault.

Has anyone done this? I have a chance to get the Pro shocks for a REALLY good price. I can get just the front or all 4 if I like.

Anyone?

Lane,

17.0" PRO RMK

18.0 Assault/Rush

The bolt holes are slightly larger at 10mm on the Pro Shocks (3/8" on the 2010 and before)

The spring rate is the same, but the valving may not be ideal for YOUR IQ as the sled weighs about 40 lb different.

Those shocks at 17" will squat the front end too much and lead to handling Chassi-balance problems.

I was hoping to put the coil over W.E. shock from the pro rmk onto my 08 800 dragon. But now that I find out that they are slightly different sizes and have different spring rates, I don't know what to use. I need a more heavy duty stiffer shock up front for my weight. Does anybody have a suggestion other then loose some weight. It's quicker to spend more money. I think I need a coil over shock. Something that will not loose it's pressure.

I don't think MH is saying they won't work, just that they'll need to be revalved.

Call up Carl's cycles or Tri City Performance... They will put you in a shock that is made just for your rider weight, sled model and riding style...THE FIRST TIME.

IMO, getting a used shock that was made for another sled, even if the length is correct warrants a re-valve and maybe new springs.

My 2 cents.

tri-city is getting an updated WE piggyback coil-over shock this week they told me i can just swap out.

So I put a set of Pro-RMK shocks on my Assault, mostly because I had my hands on a set to try for zero cost. If I liked I would buy them.

I hated them on the Assault. Way too much push on the trail, the sled actually felt dangerous on the trail. I hated that part. Off the trail they just weren't right. I would confirm what Eric (Mountainhorse) already said. Not that I didn't believe him but when you can try it out for nothing, why not?

They were probably too soft. It turned alright, but it didn't seem stable. Granted the Assault does not have a sway bar either. IF you were in a bind and needed one to get out or to complete a trip, then certainly go for it, but I wouldn't plan on using them for a season.

I had to remove maybe .5 mm from the spacer to fit it in the mount on the assault. I was able to use the OEM bolt with zero issues. I tried a 10mm bolt and it fit in the 2009 Assault mounts with no issues. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in "slop" or "play" with either bolt.
