pro rmk HID lights?

I have a 2013 Pro 800 RMK on order and would like to do HID lights. I've read a few older posts and found out that its not easy to do because of a 12volt AC system. I do not have a battery or electric start. Was wondering if anyone has figured it out to make them work. I saw Sledlites has a kit for $409.95. really!! I about fell out of my chair. I'm looking to do some of the kits for like $50.00. Don't do a lot of night riding, but just like the look.

THIS is a good start. HID kits are very cheap for cars so I'm sure you can easily half that price you have above. There were a couple guys doing this project (Harry maybe?). Do a search, it will pop up.

That Koso Ac/DC converter will never ever fire up a HID ballast. 6W output is only enough for a parklight bulb.

We are testing a AC HID kit solution ATM. So far we have had success. But still more testing to do.
But I doubt we will ever sell it in the US, if we don`t find a partner over there to team up with.

Thanks for the help guys, and i did find that thread that steelman found. But it seems to be from a few years ago and the only solution seemed be from Sledlites, for big money. There were a lot of people that posted on there that they were going to do hid, but no follow up that they worked.

I did a search of HID lights. There are ours to read also. Good Luck:usa2:

I put some HID in my 2012 pro and I coulnt get them to work they would just flicker than smell like plastic **** was burning. I just ordered some really bright blue bulbs off the internet and they work great, of course not as well as HID's but they are a lot brighter than stock and give you the Blue head light apperance!

Which ones did you use?

Pretty much the result I had. Btw, PIAA make awesome bulbs that are very blue-ish and much, much brighter than stock, and they just plug in like a standard bulb into the socket. :face-icon-small-coo

Our sleds use H13/9008 series bulbs. Any H13/9008 bulbs will work.

I was running some stuff on my vehicle from an online HID retailer. They specialize in projector retrofit parts... anyways... I wanted to run their "CAN-BUS" adapter on my truck instead of using the relay to clean up the install. I only needed the relay to eliminate the flickering.... SO this product is meant to eliminate flicking caused on newer vehicles when running HID. It takes a PWM signal which is what is on most newer vehicles for various reasons one of which is bulb out indicator. I was thinking one day while it was sitting on my desk in front of me wondering what was in it... if its taking a pulsed DC signal and smoothed it out it had to have a rectifier of some sort inside... I cracked one open and sure as **** there was what looks like a regular and rectifier and some other stuff in there... I emailed the company and of course they would not disclose what was inside, can't really blame them.

SO, I plugged them inline on my sled and connected a ballast and bulb I had laying around and bam... fired right up no flickering or anything, stayed on during idle no dimming. This was on my assault. The real test would have been trying it on my 08 shift, but I didn't feel like pulling the console apart to try it.

point is... this product will work. It is smoothing out a pulsed signal. I am just not sure about the longevity and reliability of it. This season I may run the standard bulb on the left side and an HID on the right side to test it out and get a feel for the reliability of the adapter and HID in general on a sled.

here is the product link from the retrofit source.
