PRO RMK EXHAUST BLOW BY

I just got my new snow check pro rmk 163 and i noticed that i have black liquid on the bottom on my belly pan. It is comming from where the exhaust manifold meets the pipe. Anyone else have this problem? Please help. I going to call a Polaris dealer on Monday so they can do a warranty work on it.

thats normal till you ride it, its because the new donut isnt worn in yet and also becaue of the extra oil in the tank for break in, dont worry about it till you ride it for a period of time and it gets hot. all will be good.

Fairly normal for a graffoil seal (the sivler/grey "doughnut" on the y-pipe to pipe).

Once heated up from a good hard ride... they usually take a seal.

The black oil is just normal assembly and run-in residue and will disappear, for the most part, after the first tank of gas that you added oil to for break in (the dealer told you that you would have to mix oil with your gas in the tank...right?)

A helpful bit from SLP on proper spring tension
Spring Tension Adjustment:
Spring loop adjustment is suggested for proper spring tension to prevent leakage and wear (low tension), allow
adequate flex (proper tension) and prevent spring breakage (excessive tension).
When system is installed the spring can be judged for proper tension. The winding spacing at the center of the
spring will indicate tension. When proper the two center windings will have .040" to .050" clearance between them.
This is easily tested with a feeler gage.
If tension is incorrect, the loop on the pipe or silencer can be bent in the direction needed to increase or decrease
tension. Attach a vise grip firmly to the loop and bend.

Good luck,
MH

Its all the oil in the engine and your sled is probably double mixed. The sled needs ran and the pipe needs to get hot so it will burn out. No worries, mine is the same way, all of my other sled have done the same thing. The foil donut gasket will seal better once it gets hots as well. Get a rag and wipe it out with some gas or alcohol. I did notice something else when I cleaned mine out, as I flushed it out with a bunch of gas I noticed that it pooled up and didnt drain that well. I think I will drill a couple small holes in the botttom of my bulkhead so the water will drain.

Bill,

Yours should already have the oil in the fuel tank. Carls dumps it in when they set them up.

That's what I thought, but they specifically said not to forget the oil. I'll call Tom tomorrow and make sure. That would be bad to double the oil:face-icon-small-con

I'm gonna drain my tank so I know for sure that I will have Premium Non-Ethanol fuel with the right amount of oil in it. No Questions then.

I've seen some "no ethanol" gas that actually has ethanol in it...

Get a cheap tester if you want to be sure and bring it to the attention of the manager of the fuel station if you find any.

These are cheap enough to order a few for your buddies too.

A bit of oil residue leaking around the gasket is normal the first tank as stated before. After that the exhaust should seal up.
After the first tank of fuel has been run thru it and you are sure the oiler is working properly then no more oil in the tank is needed and in fact may cause other issues like carbon build up, rings sticking, plugs fouling, and or the exhaust to still leak black oily liquid.

last year my assault leaked the whole time, it was a mess under there, traded it off for the new one at the same dealer that told me it was normal so i didn't have to clean it up.

It just seems odd to me because when i got my 04 this didnt happen. Also everything should match up and make a good seal from the get go. Any way this would be a warranty issue so im not too worried about it i just dont want to keep cleaning the bottom of the pan all the time. But thanks for the info guys.

Well first off don't worrie about it. After you get the first tank throught your machine. Take the pipe and can out, but don't remove the y pipe. Clean everything up. Next place some good hi temp rtv silicone around the end of the y pipe where the grapoil donut goes, then put the the graphoil seal back on. Make sure you clean the graphoil donught too. Then clean the flange where the exaust pipe meets the y pipe and graphoil sea. Place about a 1/4 inch bead in the end of the exaust pipe. Now let it set for about 1/2 hour and tach up. place the pipe in place and mount the springs. then do the same thing where the pipe hook to the muffler. now let everything set for 24 plus hours. Next time you ride you won't have any runs, drip or errors. I have been doing this for years and never had any mesy problems.. Good luck

Talked to Carl's today and they told me they only put in a gallon or two of 32:1 pre-mixed gas and that they DO NOT put in the 2 pints (I was told 1 pint) as recommended by Polaris. It is our responsibility to add the oil with our first fill-up.

That's definetly one way to do it, however, I work at a new car dealer....and I'm trying to think of the response I would get if I told customers picking up their new car (some models of which cost about the same as a new sled), that after the first tank of gas it was normal to take off the exhaust system at home and re-seal it to avoid spewing crap all over the place.

Honestly, it's on warranty....the dealer and Polaris' warranty department can figure out how to make it not leak if it does. My main justification for buying a new sled is less time screwing with it myself.....I've got 2 jobs, work a lot of hours, it's not much to ask that your brand new machine doesn't leak from the factory.

A little oil spewing all over the place ain't hurtin' nuthin. It's lubricating all them bits and pieces you can't reach! Then, when it's done, it'll seep through the bellypan and return to mother nature.

Well, that was my theory until I started cleaning under the motor of my old XLT...
