Pro rear wheels

I'm ordered some Iceage bomber rails and I am needing to get some 8" wheels for them.
Which wheels would you get? Plastic or billet?
I like a simple wheel design and I have been running the avids plastic wheels for some years now. Looking for something different this time around.

Just get the rails done up for 9's and get some billet 9ers... They look so good on a pro and cost is only $10 more then going with the billet 8" setup. I ran their anodized red Havocs on my last build and they look killer. The two toned machined/anodized look is something i have a soft spot for though!!

I quit running billet because our wet coastal snow was freezing to them. I'm running the PPD five spoke plastic wheels in 9's. a lot of price difference for the same wheels, available thru Wahl Broz. Avid, etc. can vary more than $20 bucks per wheel. So shop around, Avid was the most over priced from memory. Pretty sure they make an 8 also. Weight wise the billet 9's are 713 Grams and the PPD 9's are 564 Grams. So 2/3 of a pound lighter for the pair dry.

Stick with Plastic in my opinion, unless your a bling rider.

Or get the aluminum Teflon Hard anodized so the Snow and Ice can not stick to them.

Definitely not a bling rider. Any reason why you both prefer the 9" over the 8" ?
I had 9" wheels before and I really never noticed much difference in rolling resistance over the 8" wheels.
Loudhandle those PPD wheels are the ones that I have been running for the last 9 years or so.
I never had a failure in that time. Awesome wheels I should probably stick with them.

Like many things, not perceptable difference, but the rails cost the same 8 or 9. so might as well favor the 9's. you know its not hurting thats for sure. and the PPD 5 spoke is a nice stout wheel, so not a bad choice either.

Mainly my preference on the 9's.

For a few reasons; I run 9 tooth involute drivers (I will not run extroverts, regardless of tooth count) so that I do not ever have a ratcheting issue and it helps in the rolling resistance department as well. Especially when the modern single ply, tall lug tracks need to be tight to work correctly. So for those reasons the 9's on the back balance out the 9 Tooth drivers, so both are nearly the same diameter.

Also... With 9" wheels and stock dia upper idlers.... at full compression of the skid... the track will lift off the upper idler and can loose track tension...

.

Nick, do you have the plastic wheels in stock?
Back in the day, we cut a grove in the face of a billet wheel and added a o-ring to keep ice and snow from adhering to it.
