First ride of the year last weekend, make it 10 miles...
Just received the prognosis this afternoon... "Check valve going to center water pump chamber (7051020) went bad, starving the motor of oil. Needs new crank and water pump shaft". $1,800 in parts and $1,200 labor.
$11,000 sled, 2,000 miles, 2 years old and requires a $3,000 repair... WTF???!!!!!
The dealer gave me a "sh*t happens" answer. I told them that this is unacceptable, and they said that maybe I should call Polaris. Thank God that I did!!! The Polaris Customer Service guy (Andrew) was great! He said that it was unfortunate and the failure sounded very odd (never heard of this before), but to have the dealer submit a "Good Will Claim" to Polaris. He explained that he has no pull, but the Polaris higher-ups will review the claim and might do something to try and make things right. I do understand that there is something as bad luck, but this is ridiculous!!! I can only hope that Polaris' is more reliable than their motor was for me. I am told that Polaris fights with sleds IN warranty, so don't hold my breath.
I will be upgrading after the season (the IQR isn't what it used to be), and really liked the wife's Pro R, which had me planning to Snow Check a Pro-S or Pro-X this spring. I have been a 1 brand guy since 1991, but after today, the XRS with a 3 year warranty has me considering that I might want to look at my first NON-Polaris.
