I was riding last Saturday on my 12 PRO 800 155, and noticed after stopping for lunch that my temp reading was alternating back and forth from the max speed indication. I have a gauge lifter on my gauge and I had put my sweaty helmet over the gauge while we were stopped. It’s one of the few places I can keep my helmet from falling off. I was thinking that maybe the moisture from my helmet and the heat coming out from behind the gauge lifter might have caused a condensation issue.
I rode the rest of the day with the gauge working erratically.
What I found was the connector on the mode switch (the switch located above the fuel tank filler neck) had come loose. I was relived to find that to be the problem. I didn’t want to deal with a gauge warranty issue. I was surprised at how loose all of the 3 connectors were. These connectors don’t have a retaining clip of any kind, they just are pressed on and it looks like the spades on the switch fit into a detent inside the connector. So guys if you have a problem, with you grip heaters, your headlight high or low beam or gauge look there first.
