Pro clutching at 10-12k ft??

Clutch Set-up!

I will be running my pro in two weeks with the following set-up:

Carl's Helix
58 gram EPI weights from Carl's
1-Delrin
stock primary spring/blk-prpl secondary
Primary balanced and clearance set by IndyDan

I weigh 260 with gear, I will report when I return.

Lano

Appreciate the heads up, look foward to hearing how that set up worked for you....does anyone out there have a proven 10-12k ft set up?

There were a couple other threads with really good details on this, try searching those. I run that elevation and run good with 10-60's. My weights are actually 60.5 all around. I will probably grind them down to at least 60.0 or possibly 59.5. I also run the Team Tied with the Team setup for 155" at 10k feet. Works well.

I run polaris 10-56 weights and the stock spring in the primary, and a black-white spring in the secondary. My sled will tack at 8300 at 11,000 ft in colorado. It will hold that rpm on hill climbs pretty consistently maybe dropping off only 100 rpms.If you start out at a low trailhead, say 7000 ft and hold it at wot it will hit rev limitar.Ive tested a lot of set-ups at high elevation and have found that you need a light weight set-up.I havent messed with the helix yet,Going to next week .Just my 2 cents.

Like was said above it all depends on what you want to do...A Team Helix is around a 100 bucks. We changed the helix, both springs and put MTX weights in. Best setup we have found was with weight, lot's of it. 8150-8200 under a load. Without changing the helix you should be able to run 10-60's and hit 8200 or so under a load. This is with a 160/240 (blk/purp) secondary spring with one delrin under the spring cup. After 3-400 miles they seem to pull harder...10-62's should work at this point. If you have the tools play around with it, no too sleds will work the same but after some tinkering from a friend of mine, we have 3 sleds with the same setup, running the same r's and reletively the same results.

Did you have higher engagement with the MTX weights? I tried the lightening weights and they seem to throw out hard but "snapped" too much when in the trees. Almost like having a higher engagement primary spring.

68g MTX's with slp pink/blue in my sled engage same as stock. I've found with these weights you need to shift the bottom faster like a 60/40.36 or 58/38.36. with TSS04. Mid range pulls good, on top it needs less finish to hold rpm. I also use blk/prp with 1 washer.
Do you think the tied is noticable gain over the TSS04?

With the MTX weights we shimmed the spider 10 thousands...slp blu/pink and engagement is around 3500 most the time. The MTX seem to pull harder but they aren't as snappy out of the hole. Seems the 10-60's and 62's would wrap out faster but with less pull... rpm's are similar. Right around 8200 under a load.

try the slp green/pink and you will get the bottom end snap back...and still have the same finish rate..thats what we ended up with in the dragons to make them run....

That's a 160/340 right? Just raise the engagement rpm's a little. I don't mind it right now. But, with close to 900 miles on this thing it is probably due for a little re-build anyhow. I'll throw one in and give it a whirl...Thanks man.

Anybody out there that has any questions AK is probably a real good bet. Somebody said something in another thread and he mentioned something to try. It was the same setup I spent a couple hundred miles testing and then deciding worked the best...guessed it down to the duration between the helix angles and which finish angle, not to mention initial. This is at 9-12k and if I remember right AK doesn't ride above 4k most the time? Very knowledgeable...

Thanks Wyo, but i am no clutching guru..just a lucky guess based on what i have found down here at low elevations..best on snow performance I have found with the pro is gren/pink primary, 68 mtx's(3grams in the belly, 2 in the tip)stock secondary spring, 2 delrins, and 62/42/.46 helix..sled just rips with this setup...problem is it runs hot on the secondary(needs the black/purple)..havent tried it yet but it will be the next setup I do, which is exactly what we found to work with the dragons...seems like the mtx's and these cfi motors like a heavy belly and a light tip to make them work the best....
