Pro Armour Tether not working in cold

I put a Pro Armour tether on my ride this fall. I installed and tested it and it worked fine. I was just out for a ride and pulled the clip and the sled kept on running. I had to push the plunger in and hold it to get it to die. Not good. It was -6°F. Not the coldest is will ride in by far. It works fine in the warm shop. Is Is there some sort of adjustment ? Anyone else's doing this?

Decided to try Pro Armor Tethers this year as well on two sleds, mine and a buddy's, unfortunately both had issues......................

After the install on my buddy's he had the same issue as you, he filed a spot where he thought it was catching and hanging up but it still didn't work quite right. He ended up calling Pro Armor and getting a complete new tether.

After installing mine, and looking all cool, I started the sled, grabbed the tether line and gave a quick pull and presto the sled quit just like it was suppose to. But.........after grabbing the end clip to re-insert and give it another test, I realized there would be no second test. The damn clip broke on the first test!!!!!

I know it sucks azz but.......Pro Armor was cool and sent me a brand new tether cord replacement and apologized for the inconvenience. So hopefully mine was an isolated incident but if not I did order a second tether cord / clip combo to keep in the sled as a spare.

I've heard nothing but good on Pro Armor and their products so, hopefully your issue as well as ours are very few and far between!!!!

Same problem here. I started the sled in the heated garage, pulled the cord and the sled kept running. I'll have to contact OFT Racing as I purchased it from him.

I have heard of that a few times.
That the pro armor doesn't work so well in the cold.
I only run pingle tethers simple design and works all the time... They are not cheap but knowing that if you need it to do its job it will every time is priceless. IMHO

Like ICR stated, make sure you leave enough slack in the wires so the plunger can travel when the clip is pulled. Mine wasn't working after the install, and after a quick discussion with OFT Racing he told me to loosen up the wiring. Now it works great.

The plunger on mine broke second ride out, Pro Armor sent me new one but I'm not putting it back on, sucks being out in the cold having to pull hood and disconnect the wires to get going.

Mine doesn't work either purchased fom oft racing, I have plenty of slack in wires, it almost looked like the plunger was catching the handle bar adapter but it does clear, I filed little more clearance anyway, pull the pin and it runs till I push the pin a little, it does that all the time even in warm shop, maybe when it's tumbling down a hill the pin would go in on its own lol. Not very impressed with the product

I looked closer at mine and I did have a zip tie about 1 1/2" from the switch. I cut it off to give a little slack to the wiring. It works perfect in the shop. I have not pulled it out in the ridiculous cold yet to test it. Maybe in the morning I'll give it a try. Supposed to be -33 ° tomorrow A.M. do that should be the extreme test. I bought mine from OFT as well. I am a little nervous about the lack of spare clip that was being worked on.

If I were to venture a guess it would be PRO Armour's commitment to hire and employ illegal aliens to produce their products. Any company that is that set on the bottom dollar is bound to have QC issues with their products.

It is sad that the majority of the business' left in this country are run by bean counters or wall street and they have forgotten why this country used to be so great; It was because we Americans took pride in what we built, because we cared, all that is a lost on the younger generations.

I bought two Pro Armor tethers after reading all the positive here on SW. Put one on a 08 Dragon and one on my 13 Pro and 0 issues with either one. I pull the tether on my Pro every time I shut it down. Even in the super deep snow 0 issues. I would guess some guys got a bad batch, I bought mine through DK. Nothing but good to say about these products. Two Big thumbs up for Pro Armor here.:face-icon-small-coo

My new one is also hanging up occasionally.
It looks like its hitting the handlebar adaptor but seeing that some of you are having the same issue im not so sure. I'll trim it regardless and see if it fixes mine.

Mine works fine so far.

Not to be capt. obvious, but has anyone tried a little white lith grease on the slide?

Zero issues the this Falls install of an OFT Proarmor tether. 250+ miles, lots of very cold riding, lots of tips and snow. Tested many times per ride!

Bought three in fall from oft, work great in heated garage, don't work at all in cold riding temp, all pros, emailed oft zero response great company to deal with take money and zero service!

I too ordered one for my pro from OFT. Worked well in the shop, first ride out i lost the sled and it failed to shut down.
I PM'ed OFT here on the board and he promptly got back to me and told me to loosen the zipties near the teather mount.
Seemed to work great the next ride.
Simple fix I thought.
Then the other day, it failed to shut down again on another ride.
I havent investigated on the reasoning why yet.
OFT has great service, the Proarmor part is getting a lil picky it seems.

Had the same issue with mine I purchased from OFT racing on my PRO from the get go. First ride with it was pretty cold and had this issue then continued to have the issues in rides after that. I thought it was maybe my install but I have checked everything multiple times. Then two rides ago the sled would barely start. Messed with the tether forever and finally got it to run. Made it three miles up the trail and sled died going up an icy hill. Luckily got it down alright and tried forever jiggling the tether in & out and everything else I could think of sled would not fire back up. Finally took the hood off and unhooked the tether presto fired first pull. Really like the idea of having a tether for safety but so far it has been nothing but a headache and more of a safety hazard than a help. I guess I will give Pro armour and OFT a call and see if one of them can help me out I have about written the thing off.
