Primary Springs

This was discussed in the Pro forum but thought the Turbo guys are seeing more of these issues with the primary spring breaking. I had 2 break in three days of riding. I have delrins installed in both of my clutch's. All of them have broke down near the spider nut and seems like the wear marks are outside the spring so whats next. I am ordering 2 polaris clutch springs next and see if they last longer than the spring from Justins kit and the 2 maroon springs I got from Indy Dan. Just want ed to see if everyone is having the issue or if I can do something to correct it.

Polaris used to offer a black plastic "cup" that acted as a delrin washer AND kept the spider nut from nicking the spring or binding against it. Maybe that would help?
I have one on the shelf that I bought a few years back....it was only offered on a couple of models for a couple years....I can't recall which model. Anyone remember?

Could you notice it was broken when clutch was installed or did you need it apart to see ??

When we were out to valemount this weekend my buddy had a new RMK with a broken spring, he noticed it right away, it wouldn't really dis engauge at idle it kinda kept chuggin along and the top RPM was all over the place.

Spring

I was riding with a buddy yesterday and he has now had two break. The first one broke at 300 miles the second one broke yesterday at just over 600 miles. As soon as you pull your side panel and look at your primary you will see the spring wound up in itself. I filed the points on my spider down evenly and have not had an issue yet. There should be an easier fix for this and Polaris should be replacing these broken springs. Just my 2 cents happy riding to everyone looks like we're finally getting our snow :)

I have broken a couple. I took the last one out before it broke to look at it and it has wear marks on the outside of the spring and the inside where it would be contacting the nut. CAn't tell you what is going on. I installed a washer kit from thunder racing and we shall see how it goes.

titanium spring from reton spring, they do not sag or break. $$$$$tho

Spring are 20 - 35 dollars each I have gone thru 4 so far. So if they dont break who cares if they cost more. I just ordered 2 more polaris spring at 34 each for my next trip. Who sells Renton Springs and are they guarenteed

Anyone know who stocks the pink primaries? Wanted to order an extra, just seems through Team $13 for ground shipping on a spring is a bit much.

Wow those things are light weight. Could you imaging the throttle response if the whole clutch was titanium??? I guess the motor would have to be redone for the weight loss on the crank.

Maybe Mountainhorse will start a poll on how many guys are breaking the springs?
6 choices
A)multiple stock broke springs.
B)multiple turbo springs broken.
C) broke one spring stock.
D) broke one spring turbo.
E)No broken spring stock.
F)No broken springs turbo.

what is the rate on the pink spring from the silber kit? I will spend 160 on a spring to eliminate a problem . its a no brainer IMO a blown ride still costs 100.00 either way.

Sounds like I need to turn out some delrin cups for the spring to rest in too. how thick are the washers you are using under the spings now? could you get away with 1/16 ( .0625")?

My pink spring after 50 miles measured 174 at the seat and 315 full open on my calibrated rimac spring tester..

I'm still testing springs before I order my titanium..so far I'm liking about 170-180 seat with no more than 320 open, more open and you are forced to go heavy on the weights and that tends to make the bottom soft...I'm trying 290 open next, may be to light.

FYI i've run titanium springs in my mod (non turbo) sleds for years and never had one break and they typically lose less than 1% pressure over time..so basicly its a lifetime spring (mod sled used 135/340 btw)

Oh they do now make a full carbon fibre clutch cover for the p85, weighs very little, around 600 bucks i think wahl stocks them....bitchin piece as well

What spring does justin kit's have so I can order up a spare, if anyone could help me out that would be great. I do not have the sled near me.
